I believe that, as we age, we will only be able to do what we train for, so I address the entire fitness/performance range - e.g., cardiorespiratory; strength stabilization/muscle mass/maximum strength/power; skilled movement for dynamic balance/coordination/agility; flexibility/mobility. Much of my service has been working with clients to prevent or recover from disease and disability.
I provide science-based education, training, coaching, and resources to enable clients to achieve their highest health, fitness, and body/brain performance potential. The settings include client homes and the outdoors.
Many of my clients enroll in a personally-tailored 8-week assessment/training/education program designed to equip them to continue training on their own. Our individually-designed programs include long-term access to a wealth of printed and video resources and the option to stay connected with us for month-to-month consulting. Before entering our program, we schedule an informal no-fee interview to help you understand our approach and decide whether we are a good match.
My favorite client story
My favorite stories are about clients who have overcome barriers and exceeded their own expectations.
One example is JR who lost 50 pounds and eliminated every symptom of his type 2 diabetes.
A second is EF who had not walked for 14 months, but through progressive training was able to walk again.
A third is an 89 year-old client who reaffirmed her life purpose and reversed her decline in strength and stamina recovering the ability to do all in of the things she loved to do.
A fourth is DW, beginning at age 19, who grew in the confidence and physical/mental ability to succeed in school and excel athletic competition in college.
My favorite exercise
My favorite exercises are those that equip a person to perform in a sport or activity that requires a combination of skilled movements such as balance, coordination, agility, speed, and quickness.
My favorite quote
You will only be able to do what you train for. So if you want to leap tall buildings in a single bound, start jumping!
Another is one coined by my 95 year-old client, BF: "It is sad when your body dies before you do."
My training philosophy
As an athlete trains for his/her sport, so all of us can "train for life" - to be at our best in all that we love to do and are called to do.
My training experience
My experience includes serving a wide range of children and adults via body/brain training and health coaching for disease prevention and reversal and personal training. I offer interactive health and performance seminars in the corporate and church settings. I have designed fitness centers and comprehensive programs for retirement communities and corporations, provided body/brain health consultation for organizations and a hospital, and designed and led a nationally-based health coaching program. I have designed and led in-residence programs for comprehensive wellness and fitness (not only addressed physical health but also addressed each major area of life).
