What are the differences between training at a health club, a studio, and at a home or in-building gym?

Health clubs are good for people who:
  • Enjoy the energy and scene of working out with a lot of people
  • Want all the amenities of a big gym (e.g. showers, full range of equipment, juice bar, etc.)
  • Prefer traditional workout methods focused on strength training and muscle gain, like using machines and lifting weights
Studios and boutiques are good for people who:
  • Want to work out in a more intimate and private environment
  • Prefer functional training focused on improving core strength, flexibility, balance, stability and coordination
  • Are looking for very specialized workouts (e.g. CrossFit, Boot Camp, Yoga, Pilates, Boxing/Kickboxing, etc.)
In-home or in-building-gym training is good for people who:
  • Want to train in the privacy of their own home
  • Don't have the time or desire to go to a gym or studio to work out
  • Are focused on overall fitness, not necessarily bulking up or getting ripped

If you are new to fitness and working out or feel intimidated or uncomfortable in a big gym, then training in a studio or at-home are both great options!
