About Bret

Bret Wieman National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer USAW Olympic lifting certified sport coach CrossFit L1 Coach Hello, my name is Bret. I am a personal trainer and coach with a broad background. I offer outdoor coaching, in home or office sessions and training at CrossFit Blackbeard and Anytime Fitness in Largo. My career began in Hospitality, working in hotels, restaurants, and ski resorts. While working long hours and stressful days I fell out of shape, gained weight, developed back and knee issues and became pre-diabetic. The doctor told me that there were not drugs or surgeries that would solve the issues and that he had to get into shape. I started running, working out more and cleaned up my diet but it was a slow process With the help of a great trainer I lost 60 pounds and 15 inches of my waist. I went on to earn my NASM certified personal trainer certification, CrossFit L1 and USAW Weightlifting certifications and use my hospitality philosophies to help others become their best. I have had the advantage of being part of multiple CrossFit communities around the country and learned form a lot of great teachers and a variety of philosophies about fitness. I enjoy olympic weightlifting, obstacle races, sprint triathlons, half marathons, skiing and the outdoors. I spend a lot of my free time with two Labrador retrievers and Weimaraner. I can help train you to reach your fitness goals and how to cook healthy. Whether it is losing weight, toning up, getting generally fit or running your first 5K, I can help you to become your best.

My name is Sydney Herring and I have been doing personal training with Bret for about 4 months now. Bret is very knowledgeable about the correct exercises for each muscle, the proper breathing techniques, a healthy diet, and overall keeping us very motivated to want to come back each week! It is really encouraging as well when he will do the workouts with us too! I've tried with personally trainers in the past, but they were never as down to earth like Bret is. The workout classes every week that Bret has are so fun. He switches the exercises up every day, so we never get bored of the movements. I also enjoy when we do team workouts outdoors at parks as well. It honestly is very enjoyable to switch it up every once in a while. I'm glad I made the choice to switch to Anytime Fitness, it has really improved a lot for my physical health and mental health as well. Yay for Bret!!!!


Bret was the first person to introduce me to functional weight training and I haven't looked back since. Since working with Bret I have become twice as strong in my main lifts and have also doubled my explosive power! Bret not only does a great job at training you in the gym, but giving you little tips and tricks to take with you and apply in daily life that make my sessions in the gym that much more effective, and round me out as an athlete.
