About John
I’m a former aquatic biologist and I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Ecology; Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from Iowa State University. I turned my attention to health and fitness in 2015 and I am a certified Personal Trainer from the American Council on Exercise and have attained Level 1 Certification in Nutrition from Precision Nutrition.
I am an aspiring Doctor of Physical Therapy and I am currently taking classes to meet prerequisites for application.
I am a fitness professional, but I don’t pretend to be immune to the same issues all of us have encountered in our lives; I fall into ruts from time to time. Life gets in the way and my nutrition takes a hit, my workout motivation wanes. I’m human after all and I’m not perfect. That only means I understand the struggles and hold no judgment and do no shame you for yours.
I am an Improv Program graduate from the Second City
I played 15 years of competitive rugby and have the scars to prove it.
Approach
Getting high quality instruction should not be intimidating. I understand the struggle. The fitness industry is rife with conflicting information and individuals trying to make a quick buck off your need for results. I understand and feel the same pressures to look and feel a certain way. It’s a shame because it doesn’t have to be that difficult. Know that if you train with me, I will always have your back. I want to help anyone who is willing to help themselves.
The strategy is quite simple; Get Strong, stay strong and eat well most of the time. How do we do that? We collaborate. You and I identify the best approach for your health and fitness and then we get to work. You are unique and your training and nutrition should match your needs and lifestyle. We keep it simple, sustainable and effective.
Longevity and vitality are tied directly to movement and quality nutrition. We evolved as a species by producing forces on our environment. Our survival depended on it! Despite the advancement of society and to our environment, the need for our bodies to be strong, mobile and well nourished has not changed.
My training experience
I have over 5 years of training experience in both commercial and private settings. I have worked with clients from all fitness backgrounds, from beginners whom have never stepped foot into a gym setting to national level strength athletes.

John has been able to break down the perfect selection of foods I need to eat, how much and when to adjust the portions. He is also able to explain the reasoning behind his nutrition plans. I have lost 35lbs thanks to John.
John is an amazing trainer who is not only invested in making sure I have the proper movements, but also understanding the purpose of them. I've only been working with John for a few months but I feel stronger, healthier, and more energized. He's very passionate about staying fit and I've only ever wanted to train and learn more from him. I highly recommend him to anyone who is dedicated in getting fit.
