About Avery

I'm new to FYT, but I specialize in yoga and meditation. I've spent the past 15 years traveling, working and living throughout Europe, Central and North America, and Asia. I first began doing yoga about 16 years ago to help heal years of stress and physical breakdown from elite gymnastics and later, soccer and rowing. I am versed in trauma-sensitive yoga, yoga for athletes, and anatomy. MA, ERYT200, ERYT500 certified, I've led retreats, workshops, and classes for professional athletes, anxiety and depression sufferers, veterans, as well as studio and corporate clients since 2012. I also own a company called Yoga on the Fly, bringing private mini yoga studios into airports around the country. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Sociology from Boston College and a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology from the University of North Dakota.

I’ve never felt better than I have after practicing yoga with Avery. She is a gifted teacher and a wonderful person. She is motivating, patient, and truly has a love for yoga that shines through as she teaches.

I wish that I were rich enough to have a personal yoga instructor to travel with me everywhere - I would take Avery! She really listens to her students, assesses their needs and tailors her instruction to make sure everybody gets what they need. One on one, she is really easy to be with - funny, smart, and tough! She definitely gets the best out of me. Plus she gives incredible adjustments, I always leave her classes feeling taller and stronger and more comfortable in my own body.

Avery Westlund is a delightful and knowledgeable yoga instructor. Years of stress and long hours at a desk had taken their toll on me. Avery’s insights and guidance helped me accelerate my rehabilitation and improve my yoga practice by focusing on areas which needed extra attention... If the therapeutic aspects of yoga are of interest to you, then I recommend you work with Avery.

Avery is so inspiring in her teaching, so thoughtful in her delivery. She is an incredibly clever and humble teacher. She is challenging, always fun and thoughtful. I highly recommend her!

Avery has helped me address little things that I didn't even realize before, which muscles I need to strengthen or stretch differently, how little changes can make me stronger. I'd been lifting weights and regularly participating in grueling CrossFit workouts for so long and had gotten really inflexible, so she gave me a lot of stretches that I actually like. I am excelling even more in my WODs [daily workouts] and my balance is so much better now. I never thought I'd be into yoga, but with Avery it has really helped me.

Avery Westlund’s ability to connect with students regardless of age and level is the best. She can take a beginner student’s physical ability to the next level quickly. She also finds a way to make the beginner student find a mental connection with the discipline. Her ability to engage and challenge more veteran students is simply excellent.
