Pitbull Barbell Muay Thai & boxing

Coach Rob Genet

Welcome to Pitbull Barbell Muay Thai & Boxing I’m the founder and lead trainer, Rob Genet I have a extensive background in the U.S. military, where he served as a Marine and Navy deep sea dive student for a combined five years.

While stationed in Hawaii, I attended the Marine Combat Water Survival School, where he was able to become an open water rescue lifeguard. This experience sparked my interest in physical fitness, and i began exploring mixed martial arts with the local Hawaiian lifeguards.

In 2000, the Marine Corps opened up Reconnaissance training to any MOS, and i did the old Force Recon indoc for 4th Force. From here I was ultimately chosen to enter the Recon Indoctrination Program (RIP) at First Force Reconnaissance Company in Los Flores, where I spent a year in the rigorous training program.

After leaving the Marine Corps, I decided to join the U.S. Navy to become a deep-sea diver student. Unfortunately, due to a medical condition resulting from a fall,  I was discharged a year later, ending my service to my country after five years.

Today, I coach and bring my military training and passion for physical fitness to Pitbull Barbell Muay Thai & Boxing, where I work to help individuals achieve their martial art and fitness. With me as your trainer, you can expect a challenging and rewarding experience that will push you to your limits and help you achieve your best self.

Thank you for considering Pitbull Barbell Muay Thai & boxing, We look forward to helping you achieve your fitness goals

My training background and experience.

After serving my country, I returned to western New York in search of work. I found myself working as a bouncer in the infamous Chippewa club district, which led me to start training in MMA, boxing, and wrestling. I became one of the original students at WNY MMA, and I also began training at Lackawanna boxing gym under the late Angel Ortiz, who was a Sifu in Jkd and kali under Dan Inosanto and an accomplished boxer from New York City.

Angel became a father figure to me and expanded my knowledge from military combatives to boxing and Muay Thai. I also trained under the legendary Native American Muay Thai coach Stone Horse at WNY MMA. From 2003 to 2009, I trained to become a pro MMA fighter and was working towards my pro debut as a boxer. I spent many years as a paid sparring partner, gaining valuable experience.

In 2010, I moved to Texas and took a break from professional fighting. However, in 2016, I returned to the scene and earned my blue belt in GI Brazilian jiu-jitsu under the legendary Carlos Machado. I also got my purple belt at Sharpen Iron Academy and competed several times as an ultra-heavy competitor. I became an assistant coach for the grappling team at MCSweeney Martial Arts, which helped MMA fighters and Jiu-Jitsu teams.

I have been a strength and conditioning coach for numerous boxers, MMA fighters, and grapplers at Pitbull Barbell. In January 2023, I decided to expand the services at Pitbull Barbell to include one-on-one training in Muay Thai, boxing, and combatives, carrying on the name and teachings of my late instructor Angel Ortiz.

I am excited to help beginners and intermediate students reach their full potential, and I invite you to come to our gym and train with us.
