About April

I had a late and slow start building a relationship with my body. Movement practice started for me in my late 20's with Bikram Yoga and my first forray in lifting things purposelfully was when I entered the gauntlet of CrossFit. I aged through my 30's and into my 40's learning how to lift, improving conditioning, and discovering how incredible the body could be.

I went on to teach group classes and taking on personal clients of all fitness levels. I can fluently teach HIIT sessions, major lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench press, and olympic lifts, or down-regulate the nervous sysyem as we address breathing and funtional joint range. I can suggest mobility routines and nutrition guidelines to create change outside the studio sessions.

Aging well is a rebellious act, and a graceful one, when bolstered by intentionally training balance, strength, mobility, and ambulation. So we do.

I train people for the life they want to live, no matter where they are starting from.

My favorite client story

My favorite story is the one that hasn't been told yet. I have worked with so many incredible people in my years, and I learn from them as much if not more than I teach them. Each client experience makes me a better trainer, and helps me impact others in a meaningful way.

My favorite exercise

I love unilateral work! Single leg work makes me happy, and countless ways to find the appropriate challenge and reward for the effort.

My favorite quote

Never hesitate to trade your cow for a handful of magic beans.
-Tom Robbins

My training philosophy

I believe in making the body an ally. Our time on this planet with and in these bodies, and we often shame and abuse it, ignore it and stay disconnected from it. My philosophy is one of empowerment and connection, and the increased capacity for grace and kindness which comes from treating the body with love and respect.

My training experience

Over 15 years of experience in teaching CrossFit and functional training. I've been through a 300 hour yoga teachers training course, taken sundry other courses on Biomechanics, movement integration, and injury prevention. I've taught kids how to safely lift weights and I've worked with clients to reclaim and maintain physical independence as their bodies age. Everyone has imbalances, restrictions, and discrepancies that require customization and patience, so I address the needs of the individual.
