About Steve
Steve – Your Gym Best Friend
Hey there! I’m Steve, a certified personal trainer and founder of GBF Fitness, where fitness feels fun, friendly, and 100% judgment-free.
I help everyday people — especially LGBTQ+ and Nuerodivergent folks and anyone who’s felt unwelcome in traditional gyms — get strong, feel confident, and actually enjoy working out. Whether we train at your place, my private studio, outdoors, or virtually, every session is tailored to your level, your goals, and your comfort zone.
My superpower? I turn intimidating workouts into easy-to-follow, supportive sessions that build real results and real self-belief. From lifting your first dumbbell to tackling a Spartan race, I’ll be right by your side, cheering you on like the best friend you didn’t know your fitness journey needed.
If you’re ready to ditch the doubt and discover what your body is capable of, let’s make it happen — together. ?????????????
My favorite client story
One of my favorite client stories is about one of my very first clients, who came out to me as bisexual during our very first consultation — I didn’t realize at the time that I was one of the first people he trusted with that part of himself. He was feeling stuck: unhappy with his weight, low on confidence, and juggling the stress of his wife’s second pregnancy. Through our training together, he didn’t just lose weight and gain strength — he found the self-assurance to navigate his sexuality and his relationships more openly. Now, he shows up as a proud lover, father, and friend, with the energy and confidence to live fully. Helping someone grow stronger inside and out like that is exactly why I love what I do.
My favorite exercise
Anything chest-related, hands down! Back when I was pushing 300 pounds, I used to feel so insecure about my “man boobs” — they were one of my biggest body hang-ups. Now, chest day feels like my personal victory lap. Whether it’s presses, flies, or push-ups, I love watching my strength (and my confidence) grow rep by rep — and helping my clients feel that same pride in their own bodies.
My favorite quote
“Progress, not perfection.”
This simple quote got me through my early sobriety four years ago, and it’s still my mantra every day — in the gym and in life. It reminds me (and my clients) that showing up, trying again, and celebrating small wins always beats chasing flawless results.
My training philosophy
My training philosophy is simple: fitness should lift you up, not tear you down. I believe in meeting you where you’re at — physically, emotionally, and mentally — and building strength and confidence step by step. We focus on sustainable progress, smart movement, and celebrating every win, big or small. No shame, no intimidation — just you, me, and the belief that your best self is already inside you, waiting to get stronger.
My training experience
I’m a certified personal trainer through ISI, with additional certifications as a Weight Management Specialist, Certified Nutritionist, and Body Transformation Specialist. Over the years, I’ve helped people of all fitness levels gain strength, lose weight, and build healthier habits that actually stick. In addition to one-on-one training, I host fun, inclusive group classes throughout the community every month — creating safe spaces where everyone, especially LGBTQ+ and Neuro-Spicy folks and beginners, can feel welcomed and supported on their fitness journey.
