About Lawrence
Lawrence Castanon, MAI, CPT has been training clients for over 30 years.
He holds a degree in Biology from the State University of New York, is a certified personal fitness trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and is also a Certified Physical Therapist Technician. He is also CPR/AED and First Aid Certified, and is fully insured.
Additionally, he is a a SafeSport certified coach, and a certified USA Wrestling coach. He also holds black belts or instructorships in Karate, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Krav Maga self-defense.
Lawrence owned and operated full time fitness and martial arts studios in New York, and Georgia for over 25 years. He now focuses on private and small group training, teaching workshops, and seminars (both in-person and online), and writing books and articles on fitness and self defense.
His decades of experience includes training athletes, regular Joe's, moms, dads, and kids in a safe and positive environment.
He is also the author of the Amazon best-selling book, "The Short Fight", which has been featured on NBC, CBS, FOX, and USA Today. His book is a comprehensive physical training and self-defense manual.
He offers one-on-one and small group training, in-person and online.
My favorite client story
I trained a lonely, obese, depressed man lose over 100 lbs. He became a fitness instructor, then met and married the girl of his dreams.
My favorite exercise
I don't have a favorite exercise, but I do have a favorite method of training, and that is: Functional training exercises. Folks can do so much when they have gained functional strength and coordination.

My training philosophy
I believe folks can achieve a high level of health, fitness, and longevity without having to do extreme exercises that will injure them.
My training experience
I started my own journey of fitness and martial arts training in 1977 and have been training folks since 1989. I love it!
