About Ken
I am a retired U.S. Marine, and have taught fitness and martial arts for 15+ years. While I was active duty I served as martial arts instructor trainer, combating conditioning subject matter expert, and a Marine Corps Drill Instructor. I hold several fitness certifications, as well as Bachelors of Science in Dietetics from Kansas State University. I also have Masters of Arts degree in Family Consumer Science with a multidiscplinary concentraiton in Health Communications. I am alsoa Registered Dietitian.
I have taught group fitness, one-on-one sessions, self-defense courses, martial arts and martial arts instructor courses, kickboxing (individual, military and corporate levels), and CrossFit. I am athlete myself and compete regularly in all levels of obstacle course races, half and full marathons, and triathlons. I also provide nutrition education to many of these audiences.
My desire is to help people achieve their health and wellness goals regardless of their background. I am able to train you remotely for your fitness and health goals or in person. In person training can happen outside during the warmer months, or I can teach you how to use equipment you have at my location any season.
My favorite client story
Many years ago while teaching martial arts I had a young lady that couldn’t have been much taller than 63 inches and maybe 105lbs. I was teaching her how to throw someone over her shoulder, and she was not believing it was possible to someone twice her body weight and a foot taller. After a few minutes of instruction and practice she successfully launched that larger person through the air, and I will never forget the look in her eyes. After all it was her supervisor that she threw during training.
My favorite exercise

My training philosophy
Sound training has a flexible plan designed to meet health and performance goals, and able to adapt to life events.
My training experience
While I was active duty in the Marine Corps I fitness programs, bootcamps (the real one at Parris Island as Drill Instructor), instructed people on how to safely and efficiently navigate obstacle courses, how to optimize their weight and body composition for sports performance, and I’ve worked with a number of endurance athletes. Now that I am retired I work with youth, adults, and college level athletes, as well as recreational athletes, and anyone looking to become more active.

Training Areas Served
Ken is an excellent trainer. I've done various types of training with him: boxing, personal defense, overall fitness training and have been cycling with him. Ken's focus, always, is proper form, having a positive experience and is very easy to work with. His instructions are clear and will answer any questions. Super supportive, too.
Ken is a man who walks his talk. In addition to being a fantastic martial arts instructor, he is a nationally-ranked triathlete and accomplished dietician and nutritionist. As a result of his wide range of expertise, he was able to answer every fitness/health question I threw at him which I thoroughly appreciated. In addition to being incredibly knowledgeable, Ken is extremely patient and kind. I always left the sessions feeling super motivated. He lives across the country from me now or I would be certainly training with him still. Ken rocks, I highly recommend him!
I worked with Ken for months leading up to a big race and I couldn’t have been happier! Ken not only made himself available to me whenever I needed it but he had a huge challenge by dealing with me. I was traveling weekly and always in a different part of the country and he still worked around my schedule and made sure I kept on track. Ken was supportive but firm (as we all need) and always encouraging. I’ve recommended him to many others and they’ve had amazing results as well!
