I have been a fitness instructor since 1999 and worked at many different gyms: LA Fitness, Bally Total Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, YMCA, Linda Evans Fitness Canter, and The Spa for Women. I teach many different formats for many different fitness levels using a variety of modalities. These classes include: step, high-low, power flex or body pump, aqua circuit, HIIT, and body ball classes. I also have several certifications through ACE and NASM: personal training, group fitness, group training, and corrective exercise. I have bachelor's degree from Cal State University of Dominguez Hills and a master's degree in exercise scienc from Liberty University. The YMCA is my current location of employment where I am a personal trainer and teach aqua, total fit, body pump, circuit, and senior fitness classes. I love what I do and I love helping other people feel better about themselves as they improve their quality of life.
My favorite client story
I trained a stroke client about three years ago knowing he would not remember me on the next session. The only person he really recognized was his wife. One day I came into the training room where I read the words "Debby is my hero" on the wipe board. This made me feel like I accomplished my goal as a trainer!
My favorite exercise
I cannot narrow it down to one exercise. I like to do full body movements that incorporate the upper and lower body. A lunge with a back row is one of my favorites. Renegade row is another favorite exercise that challenges the core. I love to work on core because if the core is strong then all my movements can be strong.
My favorite quote
Trust in the Lord and leave all the consequences to Him.
My training philosophy
Train in a way that prepares one for life, train in a way that increases quality of life, and train in a way to decrease the chance of injury or sicknesses.
My training experience
Over the years I have changed my body to become more functionally strong and conditioned my cardiovascular system to be more and more efficient.

Debby Hartman trains me twice a week. Thirty minutes seems to be right for me. First I warm up for a half hour on the recumbant bike and am slowly adding time on the elliptical. Debby works on strength, balance and endurance with me. I’m 76 and have a knee replacement so there are things I cannot do but Debby finds ways around my limitations with humor and ingenuity! *****
Great trainer, always encouraging and keeping it new. I just started and I'm loving it. I would highly recommend Debby as a trainer.
Debby is an amazing fitness trainer, she is pleasant and knows the training equipment to help you get in shape. Debby explains how to use the equipment and what it does for you. I highly recommend Debby Hartman for your personal trainer, she is the best I have found.
Debby does an excellent job of challenging, encouraging, correcting gently (as I am terribly uncoordinated with no muscle memory!) I feel like I've improved in strength, conditioning and balance while working with her.
I have to say my training session with Debbie was outstanding. I had another trainer earlier, he seemed to make it up as we went along. Debbie & I had a meeting prior to the training we discussed some of my personal limitations and what I was looking for. The training she gave me seem to be specifically designed for me. You could tell she put some serious thought into it before we started. I will definitely use her again in the future
Looking for a trainer that is knowledgeable, pleasant, knowledgeable and patient, knowledgeable and motivating? Debby Hartman is the trainer for you. If Mary Poppins was writing this review she would write that Debby is "Practically Perfect in Every Way!” No, I am not Mary Poppins; I am a senior citizen with Multiple Sclerosis. And, I think Debby is the Best. Many Thanks.
Debby was very receptive to my personal goals needs and physical restrictions and guided me through a good workout that left me energized instead of hurting and wiped out.
