About Tonya

Tonya is Owner of Energy Fitness. She holds a masters degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Exercise Science. She is an ACSM-certified personal trainer with over 30 years experience in the fitness industry. She has been involved with sports since the age of 14, ran cross country/track in college and is a multi-sport athlete. Cross training is the key to muscle balance and consistency.

Tonya is also a Licensed Massage Therapist with certs in cupping, blading, functional movements & taping. Her numerous nutrition certifications help her to coach you to healthier choices and customize your program(s) to your needs. .

Since 2002 she has brought her passion for fitness and customer-service excellence to Energy Fitness. Tonya loves teaching a holistic approach to fitness and nutrition while inspiring her clients to believe in themselves. “I love owning a boutique fitness studiospecializing in personal training, nutrition coaching and sports massage treatments.” Energy Fitness was established and located in Memphis, TN from 2002 to 2020 then relocated to the Greenville/Travelers Rest South Carolina area. Many clients have trained with her using her Energize Method of trainining anywhere from 5 weeks to 19 years offering accountability. Available both online and onsite.

Tonya is married and has boys that are, as you may guess, active in sports and full of energy. The majority of Tonya's sessions are semi-private 30 minute customized personal training, working around injuries, functional movements. Functional movement and fitness assessments are performed on each client prior to workouts or programs and again 6 weeks or after 12 workouts. Typically she sees clients twice weekly. Energy Fitness and staff have helped transform bodies, reduce pain and get people active to get the most out of life.

First step in working with Tonya or Energy Fitness is a fitness consult to discuss goals and any health issues present. If we feel we are the right fit for each other then we proceed to a pre-assessment/screening. Using Titlest Performance Insititute Level 1 Screening we can determine the quality of your body's movements as you are asked to move your body in different directions. The rest of the assessment including pics against a posture grid as well as other assessments, helps us get a snapshot of your fitness level, ability and areas where you are tight/lack motion and need specific exercises to help bring you inbalance. Consults are about 20-30 min and assessments about 30-45 min.

Post assessments and new programs/exercises are selected so as to keep you positively progressing towards your goals.

We have anything from a 5 week kickstart program to our standard packages of 4.5 months - 12 months in length. Let's be aren't gonna get to where you need to be in 5 weeks but sometimes people need a smaller and less intimidating time period of getting their butt kicked and coached.

My favorite client story

Having trained thousands of clients I have too many stories to list here but will tell you i have a soft spot in my heart for my older clients. They are the ones that need to be fit so they can help prevent falls, reduce injury or pain and improve quality of life. One client was 89 and when he did fall he said he practically bounced up and had little side effects from it since he was so fit from all the stuff we practice in the gym.
Other clients that didn't much care for exercise or had exercise ADD do well with me as they usually say that the variety of exercises keeps it interesting and that they are glad they had an appointment to keep them accountable.

My favorite exercise

IT band crossover for spinal flexibility and mobility of hip and hamstring. I also like having clients squat to a bench to get proper form. They can do this with both legs or a harder and more favorite version is a staggered leg as we often have one leg that is stronger. We add weight as they get stronger which is pretty fast.

My training philosophy

Lots of cross training and moving the body in ways that will crossover into being stronger and leaner so you can enjoy life!
It all adds up and doing the things we often don't like are the very things we need.
