About Michael
Hi everyone! I’m Michael. I believe that my purpose in my life is to help others. I've never felt more joy than when my clients have been able to accomplish something they never believed themselves capable of. I believe that kindness and support can help people realize potential that might otherwise be hidden away for a lifetime. My own weight loss and fitness journey created so much good in my life that I changed from a biology pathway to a health pathway in my career. I believe in support and encouragement throughout the process.
I don’t do crazy programs, harsh diets, or subscribe to fads. Instead, I keep you safe during workouts, develop a strong and safe foundation, and keep you healthy in your relationship with food. My clients are my friends, my family, and my peers, and I want to set them up accordingly. I currently hold an ACE certification, an Associate's in Exercise Science, and a Bachelor's in Health and Wellness. I also have experience with eating disorders, mental health disorders, and even training those with systemic illnesses.
My favorite client story
My favorite client story is that of my client Sharon. Sharon came to me before I went private, back when I worked at a big-box gym five years ago. She had Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, high blood pressure, and a host of other physical ailments. When Sharon and I talked, she let me know that helping her physical health was secondary: she wanted to be able to get up from the floor unassisted. She wanted to regain the confidence of knowing that if she fell, she could get back up.
Fast forward to last December, and Sharon's Lupus and Arthritis have been in remission since her last check-up 6 months ago. She's lost 60 lbs, and we've been learning how to squat nearly to the ground and improving her core and upper body functional strength. Sharon comes into the studio, and when I ask her about her vacation, she lets me know that she and her nephew were playing on the ground, and without using her hands, she was able to not only get up off the floor, but do so while carrying him with her.
She inspired her whole family to work out, and at their weddings, get-togethers, and holidays, I've been able to talk to them and see the transformations each one has made. That being said, no one has gotten as strong as Sharon has, and they still look to her as proof that they can get stronger.
My favorite exercise
My favorite exercise is a Neutral Grip Pull-Up! A pull-up is the breaking point for many clients, where they realize that they can do anything they set their mind to in the gym. To see someone go from a life spent behind a desk to a life where they can lift themselves into the air using their own strength is amazing. The neutral grip helps to protect their joints while they learn.
My favorite quote
"The strong should aid and protect the weak. Then the weak will become strong, and they in return will aid and protect those weaker than them." -Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer
My training philosophy
My training philosophy is that one should train in order to facilitate one's ability in life. Health doesn't last just a season but follows us our whole life. Training should encompass all aspects that allow us to age into strength, so that even 40 years from now, we can live a strong and active life.
My training experience
I have trained in most settings. I've trained in big box gyms, boutique studios, and physical therapy clinics. Each of these experiences has allowed me to see both the strengths and weaknesses in each environment. I've been training myself for ten years now, been training others for seven, and have had my certification for five. I've trained athletes, celebrities, moms, dads and everyone in between.
