About Brian

My name is Brian Lam. I grew up overweight but fell in love with strength training when I decided to lose weight for basketball. I am a recent graduate from Queens College with a bachelors in nutrition and exercise science. I am currently studying to become a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS). My mission is to help people achieve their fitness goals through intelligent and maintainable training regimen and diet so that you’re to maintain your fitness for the rest of your life.

My favorite client story

I had a client named Alex, who started with me at 220 lbs. He had low self esteem and was eager to lose weight so that he can start feeling better about himself. The problem was that he had no motivation to train and eat right. Since new years was coming up, we decided to use that to our advantage to spark a fire in him to stay consistent with his training and nutrition. In 3 months after New Years, Alex lost 20 pounds and his confidence sky-rocketed. He didn't do anything special, he just stayed committed and consistent to his training and nutrition. If he had a day where he wasn't eating according to his goal, he got back on track the following day. He is a prime example of a client who chose consistency over perfection.

My favorite exercise

My favorite exercise is a back squat, trap bar deadlift, chin ups, and bench press.

My favorite quote

“No citizen has a right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training…what a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”
- Socrates

My training philosophy

I believe that fitness and nutrition should fit the client's lifestyle. I try to find a training/nutrition style that can fit in a client's lifestyle in the long-term instead of short-term.

My training philosophy is to keep things as simple as possible, focusing on progressive overload in weight being lifted, form, enjoyability, and pain-free.

My training experience

I have been a trainer for 1.5 years.

Great experience with Brian! He’s very attention-detailed and flowed very well with me. He keeps me motivated and makes me feel like I am really accomplishing things when we train. Highly recommend him if you are serious about your goals and just wants a trainer that understands you!

He’s a nice and knowledgeable personal trainer. I was at the point which I could not lose any weights for a period of time, but after following his personalized instructions for a diet and workout routines, I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. It is always good to have an expert in the field to point out your blind spot when you see no result from what you’ve been working on.

Learned so much from Brian. Taught me how to stay safe lifting and made staying consistent easy. Brian also makes understanding nutrition very easy as well.

Brian is hands down the best of the best. He not only prioritizes your goals: whether it's getting stronger, maintaining, losing weight, or being healthier, but he also pays close attention to your emotional well-being, which, in my opinion, is one of the most important part of fitness. His attention to details with working out specific body parts along with his intelligence and building relations with his clients is what makes him a great trainer. Throughout my time training with Brian, I've not only lost 9 pounds but I also feel myself getting stronger. I've learned so much from Brian about how to go about exercise and nutrition in a non-restrictive and healthy way and I honestly wouldn't be where I am at now without his help. 10/10 highly recommended.
