About Eric

I am a former collegiate student athlete from Marshall University and Southeast Missouri State University (1999-2003). I managed a personal training studio in Soho for 8.5 years and had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of clients with various ailments and limitations. This served to make me a well rounded body transformation specialist.

I have personally been a victim of crippling end stage osteoarthritis, then went through bi lateral hip resurfacing at HSS, then extensive rehabilitation. Thus, I have a unique insight as to how a person feels with limitations, sometimes severe, and that allows me to understand the importance of shaping programs based around the capabilities of the client. I have experience as a physical therapy technician, which allowed me to apply corrective exercise protocols in order to help people enhance their lives through exercise.

My approach to each client is to fashion my program and protocols around the individual client's goals and objectives. I am not a drill sergeant. My objective is to dictate, educate, and motivate! You can be sure that before I have a client perform a movement, I have tried it and it is part of my own protocol. I practice what I preach!

I prefer to accentuate the control of the negative portion of each movement to provide better development without risking injury due to ballistic movement. I also believe fitness doesn't have to be a drag, so I do Crack jokes at my own expense!

I am a firm believer in the principle that the motion builds the muscle, and the weight/resistance is just an accelerator.

I also frequently reasses whether a protocol is working for a client bc I do not believe in "One size fits all". Everyone is different and that is what makes us unique!

My favorite client story

Many!
But my universal favorite is when people tell me how much their lives have improved since we began working together.

My favorite exercise

Belt Squats on the Pit Shark, Squats on a bosu, if permissible some kettlebell work, and sled pushing!!!

My favorite quote

Adversity introduces us to our true selves.

My training philosophy

Training should be tough and yield results....but it doesn't have to suck. I do believe in pushing physical limits, but more isn't better, BETTER is better. I focus on form and accentuating the negative so we get solid results and minimize the risk of injury. If a client wants sports specific training, well....we can do that as well!!!
I also try to keep the session entertaining and offer advice on nutrition based upon my experience as a competition classic physique amateur.

My training experience

-1 year New York sports clubs
-8.5 years General manager/head trainer Hanson fitness
-6 years current owner of E Shred fitness
-Orangetheory Fitness coach

I worked with Eric for 2 years and found him to be a rare combination of being very knowledgeable about training as well as being a super nice guy. Eric is smart and very professional. I highly recommend him.

Eric’s unique knowledge of human anatomy as well as nutrition allows him to shape and tone your body for strength and fitness. Each session is based on his research and his own personal results with a series of weight lifting exercises designed to boost your endorphins, relieve stress and increase your bone density. Each session is varied and targets different body parts during different days of the week. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Eric for over five years and am always recommending him when asked about how I got my own results.

Eric was recommended to me by a friend and I’ve been very grateful to her for the introduction. Eric is responsible, prompt and is very willing to adjust his schedule to yours. He’s knowledgeable about the body and adjusts his training to meet the limitations and/or demands of his clients. I’ve enjoyed working with him and will continue to do so in the New Year.

I’ve been training with Erik for almost 10 years now, he has always kept our routines fresh and different and constantly evolving. Consider yourself lucky to train with him. ??

I am rapidly approaching retirement age and have a very sedentary job. Accordingly, I need to remain physically active. I cannot imagine being able to do it without Eric's wise advice. I have been working with Eric off and on for a number of years. My only regret is that I have not had the will power to keep up my training throughout the years. Eric is a star. He is extremely knowledgeable about all things related to training. I have made tremendous strength gains in a relatively short period of time. I have also lost a few pounds and feel younger and stronger than I felt in years. I cannot say enough about Eric's approach. He is a consummate professional. He understands physiology and how to get you on the right path. The rest if of course up to you. You cannot do much better than Eric, whether its is strength training or weight loss that you are after, he can guide you and make it happen. Thank you Eric!!!

I’ve been working with Eric for 9 years and I won’t train with anyone else. He understands the human body: muscles, ligaments, joints and diet and how they all work together. He tailors workouts to achieve your goals. He remembers your limitations and guides you through a session while distracting you from the burn with interesting and entertaining banter. He’s always in a good mood, loves what he does and rewards your efforts with positive feedback. Give him a try. Jay

I have worked with Eric one-on-one for over 5 years. I do not find gyms to be comfortable places or working out to be anything but a miserable chore. Working with Eric makes this more than tolerable and he has a broad range of interests, opinions and stories which keep me entertained and engaged and we get through the workouts without me wishing they were over before they started! He also has ideas on nutrition and supplements that give you the opportunity to improve your body between workouts. I heartily recommend Eric if you want a quality and intelligent workout with someone who can do more than grunt and/or give you the usual banal workout encouragement.
