About Christopher

I like to work with trainees who have either not been able to become regular exercisers, or those that struggle with weight-related ills such as metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes, etc.   I particularly enjoy working with people who want to lose weight because #1: I'm effective at it, and #2: it gives me a great sense of satisfaction personally.

When people lose weight and get in shape their entire lives change for the better.  Their self esteem raises, their confidence goes up, they look better, they feel better, and they're healthier.  Because of this they're happier every day.  They're proud of themselves for accomplishing something that often times they have given up hope on.

Being the "change agent" for that person is one of the most rewarding things I can experience.

Another type of client I enjoy working with is the non-exerciser.  This clientele knows that they need to exercise, but they have either disliked exercise too much to engage in it, or they suffer from a lack of motivation and self discipline.  That is certainly understandable and I can relate!  Most exercise is unpleasant.  The exercises are boring and arduous.  Yuck.  No wonder they don't exercise.  Life is too short to constantly engage in things you hate.

I invented a totally unique exercise system where the client doesn't have to do anything they don't like:  there is nothing to dislike in my system!

We don't do ANY bootcamp exercises or calisthenics.  There's no pushups, situps, crunches, planks, burpees, mountain climbers, or jumping jacks!  There is no running in place, jumping rope, or weight lifting.

My training instead revolves around learning and practicing interesting and challenging "fight combinations" on the heavy bag.  You're actually learning and participating in a sport instead of "exercising".  This makes all the difference in the world.  Sure it's hard work, but you're actually DOING SOMETHING, not just pushing your body to expend energy for energy sake.

There is one last category of person that I enjoy training:  the person who wants to learn self defense.  Perhaps you are the victim of a bully, maybe you're a female who is uncomfortable in this increasingly violent world, maybe you are someone who just wants to feel more confident physically.  My training is perfect for all these scenarios.  You are going to be learning so many valuable things about fighting.  All kinds of different strikes and techniques, defense, footwork, distancing, etc, etc, etc.

I used to own an L.A. Boxing gym.  It later became UFC GYM when our franchise merged with the UFC.

We specialized in group kickboxing classes.   When I sold the gym, I wanted to carry on with my own training, and I discovered something:   there were a lot of flaws in the way kickboxing classes are done.  I won't detail what they are, but I tackled each one of the flaws and created a training program that was nothing but STRENGTHS.  I took out all the superfluous exercises, removed all the time wasting fluff, improved all the combinations thrown at the heavy bag, and made each training session much more interesting, practical, valuable, and rewarding.

I really feel that the "System" I invented for personal training is not only awesome, but it is the best in the world.  No one else has put together this unique training philosophy with this style of training.  It was my goal to create the best training system in the world for someone who wanted to train kickboxing without partners and without going to class. Every time I train, this is the exact system I use.  Every client I train, I use the exact same system.  You are doing the exact workout that I do for myself.  How many trainers do you think actually do the same workout they're putting you through?  (close to zero)

Please see my Testimonials.  I am sponsored by Combat Sports and Ringside Boxing.  You will love this training!

My favorite client story

(Won't say, for fear of my other clients thinking I'm playing favorites!) But needless to say, this client has experienced: weight loss, triglycerides way down, cholesterol down, blood pressure way down, being able to come off medications, stronger, more cardio, more empowered, able to deal with stress better and have more resiliency in life, happier, and on and on...

My Testimonials will let you know how other people feel about it.

My favorite exercise

Kickboxing on a heavy bag. It simply does EVERYTHING you're looking for. (Well, not everything. It won't build huge muscles, if that's your goal.) But you develop strength and its actually usable because its natural and athletic and not restricted to the path of a machine or weight exercise. (But weight training is good too, just not nearly as much fun.)

My favorite quote

"75% of success is simply showing up!"
If you simply show up to the training, you WILL get the results you're looking for. It happens 100% of the time.

My training philosophy

Here is my philosophy for my trainees: Training should begin slowly to help the body adapt, recover, and grow. I am unique in that I don't focus on "goals". The results of my training come as a natural byproduct; they don't need to be pursued directly. The only thing you need to do is show up; then results (effects) will surely show up. Most of the benefits from exercise come AND STAY as a result of making sure your LIFESTYLE now includes continual exercise. It has to become who you are. (What does that tell you? You better find something you like, because life is too short to force yourself to continually do things you dread.)

With my training, I don't weigh you or measure you.
I guarantee you already know how much you weigh before you show up. If you're comfortable telling me your weight and having me help you specifically with that problem, I will certainly do so. If it takes time to develop that trust, that's fine too.
Instead of focusing on all of that, my training helps you take your mind OFF yourself and put it into the Muay Thai Kickboxing. It's nice to take a break from yourself, your problems, and the world... for an hour. Many trainees begin to treat this time as "sacred space" for themselves, and see it as integral in helping cope with stress and live a better life with a healthier outlook.
.......

I try to help you develop a mindset that you are now an exerciser, and that exercise simply must be a part of your lifestyle from this day forward. Once you make that change, the rest of success is more easily able to be integrated into your life, with much less effort and willpower.

Most people think, "I need a trainer to kick my butt!!!"

No, you don't need that. What you need is a training program that you can do, and enjoy doing, week after week, month after month. Most programs will burn you out and have you not enjoying exercise in a very short period of time. Everyone is in a hurry for results. They get some, but they don't last. Come see me... I will turn your whole life around, after about 10 sessions. You'll feel like a different person. And you'll love it.

My training experience

I started personal training by getting certified by the International Sports Science Association in the mid 1990's. I specialized in training people in proper weight training with free weights and machines. In 2005, I opened up a gym called "L.A. Boxing" which specialized in boxing, muay thai kickboxing, and weight lifting. Then I moved to Greenville and continued perfecting a "Workout at Home" exercise regimen focusing on Kickboxing using the heavy bag. I designed the System just for myself, but soon discovered it was perfect for training clients. People loved it so much that I stopped doing any other type of training and focused 100% on my Kickboxing Private Lessons. My main passion is to turn "non-exercisers" into "exercisers", and I love working with beginners, overweight, and those struggling and needing an awesome life change. I can certainly help provide that, and you will love it! Don't count yourself out: kickboxing is for YOU! Its my job to make you a believer!

I have never taken a Kickboxing class before but heard about this one and decided to try it out. I am just in my second week and I already love it! It is a great, all over workout, which was exactly what I was looking for. You decide on how hard you want to work out. Plus, the range of the moves you learn work out most of your muscles. The instructor is very motivating and knows what he is doing. It is a fun class and over before you know it. The group is made up of different ages, men and women, and they are fun to work out with. The groups are small so you get your personal time with the instructor. He helps you perfect the moves and motivates you to keep going.

I've been coming here for a little over a month and absolutely love it. This is not a soft workout - it's challenging and pushes you every single time, but you determine your own intensity. Every class is different, you're sweating after two rounds and you see a difference in your muscle tone immediately. The class is comprised of all age groups, athletic ability and skill levels and it really is an awesome environment! The instructor consistently makes sure your executing moves with good form, is encouraging and before you know it, the hour is gone, so are the calories and you've just learned a hell of a lot. Wish I had found this place sooner!

Chris Hinton has a fantastic program going with Kickboxing Underground. Since I started one-on-one kickboxing with Chris, I have increased energy, endurance, agility and strength--and I'm gaining muscle and losing fat. The training classes are a blast! The sessions are always fun and challenging. Chris provides instruction that is specifically designed for the individual and it's always mentally stimulating and physically demanding. He's the best trainer I've worked with, always respectful and motivating. I highly recommend kickboxing to anyone who wants to get fit.

Having Chris by my side not only with constant professional reassurance that i could do this and words of wisdom on how to overcome the mental state I had been battling for years when it came to my health and fitness, it's the icing on top of his training sessions that are well planned and a workout that not only kicks my butt, but its now a weekly anticipated workout that I actually look forward to and enjoy taking this time out for myself. It's my Healthy Treat!

I lived farther away so i could only come a few times a month but I must say I learn more from Chris about exercising and about kickboxing than I thought I ever could. Chris really helped to change my life for the better, in more ways than he'll ever know. At first I thought he would get disappointed in me when I wasnt catching on to the techniques correctly. But no, he never showed impatience although he sometimes very tough. But I needed it. I will never find a personal trainer like him again for this I am sure. Chris, you live long in my heart my friend. Bless you!

I'm so thankful to have crossed paths with Christopher Hinton. I struggle with the consistency of working out. I have tried gym memberships, workout partners, even setting up my own home gym. All of these i have failed on my own time and time again. It wasn't until i was lucky enough to find his ad for kickboxing and training that gave me a new outlook and WANT to exercise, while actually being excited about it. Highly, highly, highly recommend Christopher!

Best personal trainer I've ever had by far! Chris always seemed to know exactly how hard to push me and when to make me slow down. But what I really loved most is the kickboxing workout he put me through. I've never had so much fun but worked so hard at the same time! I only went 4 sessions before I lost my job and had to cut back on expenses, but if I could afford it Id be a customer for life! Hope this review helps Chris.

Most fun workout I ever done. I went through the 6 week boot camp one time. Each workout had me doing something new. I would have done more but Chris moved to So. Carolina. I liked it because I learned something at every session. Chris is a top notch trainer, thats for sure. In every way. Thanks

I love this workout!!! I had never even donned a pair of gloves before, so I kinda felt like a fish out of water for the first few sessions. But Chris is so patient and never makes me feel like he's disappointed in me. Just the opposite. He gives me so much encouragement, I love it. What's different about me? Well, lets see: I lost 18 pounds so far, my clothes fit finally!, I actually notice I have muscles (I luv it!), but the biggest thing is probably the stress I relieve. It's a complete stress dump. I feel soooo much better now.

By far the best personal trainer I've ever had! I came to lose weight and get my body toned up. His kickboxing workout was exactly what I needed. It's not just my body that looks better, my mind just FEELS better. My husband says it's been a miracle for me. ha ha I am still very overweight and I realize it's going to take time to reach my end goal, but so far so good. (Still can't believe I'm doing kickboxing!!!) This was so NOT ME! lol But Chris makes me feel like a champ and like "I can do this!"

This is a fantastic workout all around! It's fun to do and I can feel the effectiveness of the workout. I have enjoyed seeing my progress in learning the moves and getting better at the combinations. As a bonus, I feel more confident in being able to protect myself from a dangerous situation, even though this is not a self defense class. Christopher is very professional and helpful in building good techniques and fight habits. I highly recommend this class.
