About Amanda
My name is Amanda Jessop, and Channel Your Inner Athlete is a mobile personal training company located in Amarillo, TX. I am devoted to educating people on how to exercise safely to meet their goals while minimizing the risk of injury through personalized & balanced private, semi-private, and group training sessions in the comfort of their own home or local parks.
My goal is to change the way you look at personal training, in that personal training is not just getting a great workout, but to educate and equip you with the knowledge you need to take action to exercise safely, develop body awareness, and prevent exercise related injuries long term.
I believe everyone should be able to live an active, balanced, pain free life. I view myself as a partner with my customers and my community to help spread the ‘gospel of injury preventive and corrective fitness’.
Growing up, I was very self-conscious of my looks. I believed that the more attractive you were, the more people liked you and the more successful you were. I had zero self-confidence and battled with depression and anxiety. Exercise became my release and daily practice to de-stress and forget about everything in my life.
So I started lifting weights and running A LOT. Everything exercise related I did to the extreme. Run 10 miles everyday, lift for 2 hours, etc. I focused more and more on improving my strengths, and as I did this my weaknesses got weaker. I started developing many overuse injuries: multiple leg stress fractures, patella femoral and mal-tracking problems in my knee, meniscus tear, etc.
Because of this, my depression got worse. When I was injured I couldn’t exercise, and that was my outlet. Not only that, but my negative mindset started effecting other areas of my life including: career, family, relationships, etc. I ended up having surgery on both knees, because every time I went into my doctor, he could never tell me HOW to prevent these injuries from happening. He was just there for the quick fix. And I FINALLY didn’t take that as an answer. I very well knew other people had flat feet including athletes, that overcame and prevented their injuries and didn’t resort to surgery.
So I started studying how athletes train and followed all the big functional athletic coaches, including Todd Durkin, Mike Boyle, and Eric Cressey, Gray Cook, etc.
I then applied these injury preventative principles to my own fitness and developed the hands down most IMPORTANT thing anyone can learn: Body Awareness. What I also learned was that PAIN is our body telling us we aren’t moving properly. With this knowledge I attained, I have been injury and pain free ever since. My journey consisting of enduring injury setbacks, overcoming them, and then learning how to prevent them is what I term CHANNELING MY INNER ATHLETE. Now it’s your turn!
