Our next shining star is a dedicated professional who not only teaches others important principles, but also lives by those same principles. Many of our students see him as a role model who inspires them to do their best and as someone who holds them to a “higher standard”. Student athlete is a term he uses to have his kids understand that they are students first and athletes second. In this age of glorification of stars because of their talent, he emphasizes character, personal sacrifice, teamwork, and responsibility over individual performance. He is dedicated to the fitness of mind, body, and spirit for our Avalon students and works tirelessly before, during, and after school throughout the year—to help others meet their personal and team goals. Being a coach is more than organizing and practicing for important competitions. It includes preparing young athletes to meet life’s challenges by planning, preparing, and cooperating with others both on and off the court or field. More than you might realize, Coach, your students and athletes are learning from you many life lessons that will serve them well. For your commitment to our students and outstanding representation of our school in all you do, I proudly pass the Shining Star Award to: Mr. Dan Lockshin
