About Michael

Hi there! Thanks for checking out my page! My name is Mike Avant, and I have been an ACE Certified Personal Trainer since September or 2016. I am originally from Minneapolis, MN, however I moved to Denver, CO at the beginning of 2017. I became a personal trainer because of my love and passion for health and wellness. I was a competitive swimmer for 15 years, so physical fitness was always a part of my life. During my sophomore year of college, I realized I wanted to become a personal trainer to help other people live healthier lives, and reach their fitness and wellness goals. I love seeing changes in my clients, and helping them reach goals they never thought they could reach, and then set new goals to keep them moving forward. I have worked with a wide range of clients. Some of the clients I have worked with have limited range of motion, shoulder injuries, knee injuries, hip injuries, back injuries, previous surgeries they are recovering from, as well as clients who want to build lean muscle, tone up. I have also worked with clients who have goals of losing weight and feeling healthier on creating that workout routine to kickstart them. I love working with clients who are motivated to make healthy lifestyle changes, or simply want to tone up and need introductions to free-weight training. Within a typical training session with me, we start by hitting full-body so I can show you as many exercises as possible for each muscle group. As we continue with training and clients begin to master certain moves and skills, we start to isolate into upper and lower groups, and from there, certain muscle groups (ex.. chest and shoulders, or back and arms...) Feel free to reach out to me if you have questions regarding interest in training with me, or health and wellness in general.

My favorite client story

I have worked with a number of clients over the years, however my favorite would have to be working with a 70+ year old client. This client was scheduled for a knee replacement, and our focus leading up to it was just strengthening everything in the lower body to prepare him for the replacement. After having it, it was only 3-4 weeks post surgery when the doctor and physical therapist cleared him to begin normal (with some modifications) exercise. Even the physical therapist noted that because of the work he put in before the replacement, his recovery time was drastically faster than a patient who does not put in as much work as he did.

My favorite exercise

My absolute favorite exercise would have to be a leg burner involving slow lunges and fast lunges back to back with no rest. Truly lights the legs up and gets you feeling every muscle.

My favorite quote

"I train because .01 counts." - Michael Phelps.
I was a swimmer for 15+ years, so that quote will forever be my favorite.

My training philosophy

My training philosophy follows the stance of if you want the results, the work needs to be put in. This most likely follows what every other trainer follows, but it is 100% true. If you really are committed to working with a trainer, but aren't serious about getting your results, then it becomes a waste of everyone's time. If you are there to fully commit, you put in all the work both in and out of the gym, that makes trainers super happy!

My training experience

I have worked with every age of client from 18 years old to 75. I have worked with a number of different medical conditions, injuries, limitations, and what not over the years. Like I noted before, each client has a different goal. Your workout program is created specifically for you.
