About Jose

Hi There, my name is Jose (A.K.A JeLs) and I was born and raised in Washington Heights, New York. I was always an athletic person growing up. Even as a child, I was always full of dynamic energy. Being the third of a six children household and living within a tight three bedroom apartment, I yearned to take advantage of the more spacious outdoors. A favorite childhood place was the local park in which I honed my abilities in the jungle gym to climb and fall/tumble safely. This was one of the first places I’ve learned to face my fears head on. 




Taking advantage of my innate physicality, I channeled my developing skills into a variety of sports such as; Parkour, Mountain biking, Skateboarding and Rollerblading/Ice Skating. 




While growing up in the 90’s, I was inspired by Action films. The action scenes and stunts performed drove me to practice martial arts. Starting at the age of 8, I found a local Tae-Kwon-Do Dojo and began my Martial Arts journey. My enthusiasm coupled with my high level of discipline resulted in quick advancement. Mastering complex combination and self-defense forms, I branched out into other arenas of fighting such as Greco-Roman wrestling, Amateur Wrestling (WWF style), Capoeira, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Kick-boxing and a few weapon based forms. 




While attending SUNY Purchase College (graduating with a B.A. In Visual Arts) I was able to feed my curiosity about understanding the human body. I fed that intellectual hunger by studying courses in Anatomy, Kinesiology, Dieting and Weight Management, Resistance Training, Functional Mobility and Injury Prevention. I applied the things I learned onto myself. While in college, I also explored Swimming, Rock/Mountain Climbing, Gymnastics and Yoga. 




After college, I concentrated my energy on building a career in a variety of professional environments such as; hospitality, medical administration and graphic design. Varied as these industries are, they never yielded substantial success nor satisfaction, but they did give me the opportunities to refine my social/communication, listening and attention-to-detail skills. This gave me, what I consider, the unique ability to connect with others in any given circumstance with compassion and understanding.




This ability is what serves me best as a Personal Trainer. My clients benefit from my personal physical experiences, my ever-continuing education and mostly importantly my ability to see what others truly need. Supporting my clients throughout the process of achieving their Physical Journey and reaching their goals.

Well, one of my clients that is over the age of 60 I helped her lose 100lbs within a year. Need I say more.

My favorite exercise

Anything High-intensity like kettlebell, Battle Ropes, Plyometrics, Kick-boxing, TRX. As long as its challenging, I love it.

I have been working out with Jose for over one year, after my former trainer moved to CA. Before working with him, I had many opportunities to observe him because we worked out at the same gym. Jose is an excellent trainer. He is very knowledgeable about the different muscles of the human body and knows exactly the exercises to strengthen those muscles. He pays close attention to his client’s strengths and weaknesses and tailors his sessions to meet the needs of his clients. He also always starts his sessions by asking his clients what they want to work on that day. His stretching warm-up and cool-down are also excellent. I hired Jose based on what I observed but more importantly, because my former trainer highly recommended him. I would also highly recommend him as a personal trainer for anyone, regardless of their age or ability. Jose can and does train a wide range of clients.

Finding a trainer that fits you isn’t an easy thing to do. Jose, on the other hand, is one of the best trainers I’ve ever had. Not only is he super sweet, but makes you feel comfortable no matter what skill level you are. He is great at making adjustments for injuries, or any other mobility problems you may have but in a safe and comfortable way. He knows his stuff and is the first person I go to with any personal fitness questions without feeling ashamed. .
