I lost 65 pounds in a year. I became involved in sports such as Varsity soccer/football, and I even got a girlfriend (actually, not really, but at least I felt more confident to ask a girl out). I also practiced martial arts, including taekwondo, kickboxing, and Muay Thai, in my early 20s.</p><br><p style="box-sizing: border-box; border: 0px; font-size: 18px; font-style: inherit; margin: 0px 0px 0.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">I struggled with social anxiety, body dysmorphia and depression in my early and mid 20s that caused me to have a yo-yo effect on my health, especially my weight. I challenged myself to overcome these barriers without medicine and i know from day one i would love to help others do the same! I am not against pills or therapy, in fact i encourage them as a last resort but i know that if i can break the cycle by challenging the body and the mind, i can conquer just about any obstacle life throws at me!</p><br><p style="box-sizing: border-box; border: 0px; font-size: 18px; font-style: inherit; margin: 0px 0px 0.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Since then, I have fallen in love with Fitness. <p>Hi there, I'm Ashley and I would love to help you reach your health and fitness goals!</p><br><p>As a gymnast my entire life and then struggling with my weight from a hormonal disorder (PCOS) as a teenager, I developed a strong passion for helping others work on their physical health.</p><br><p>I have over a decade of experience in the fitness industry. In 2013 I graduated with my B.A. in Exercise Science and Psychology and an M.A. in Mental Health Counseling. I utilize my education to help my clients get healthy physically and mentally. I believe that the two are connected. In fact, as the years went by I developed a strong dislike for anything fitness related. The local gym in my hometown (Redondo Beach, CA) was looking for swim instructors. I had grown up swimming at the beach, so I applied and got the job! It came with a free gym membership, which I was never going to use - or so I thought.<br /><br />For years thereafter, I taught kids to swim and avoided the gym. One day, a coworker asked me to work out with him after we were done teaching for the day. I said no at first, but he kept at it. Day after day he'd ask me to work out. I'd say no, until finally, probably out of pure exhaustion from having turned him down so much, I said yes. <br /><br />I'm so glad I did. <br /><br />The years went by and I continued to go to the gym. I didn't know what I was doing so I just copied what the regulars did. Slowly but surely, I began to figure it out. I started to feel strong. My body changed. People I hadn't seen in awhile would ask, "Hey, have you been working out?" That question sealed the deal! I was hooked. The gym - this place that had terrified me for years - had become a place of comfort and encouragement. Amazing.<br /><br />So now, here I am, living in NYC.
