About Portia

I am a NASM-certified personal trainer and pre/postnatal specialist with a passion for helping people reach their strongest and healthiest potential. I am currently a Master Instructor at a barre studio with locations across New York City, where I co-lead teacher trainings and have helped create original formats. I have a background in performance and dance and  hold a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

I know first-hand how the benefits of a fitness and wellness regiment can transform your life. Looking forward to working with you and helping you build your strongest and healthiest self!

My favorite exercise

Any variation of side plank :)

My favorite quote

"Stay committed to your decisions but stay flexible in your approach." -Tony Robbins and "everything in moderation, including moderation :)"

My training philosophy

I can be a stickler about form: I believe training first and foremost must be safe and that having strong technique can make or break your experience, your progress and the results you end up seeing. I also believe that training should be fun; you're always going to be more consistent with a workout that you enjoy. And lastly, there's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to working out; different exercises and methods work differently on everyone's bodies. I'm committed to working with you to find your perfectly tailored training experience.

Always love Portia's classes. Challenging but fun and well-paced. My favorite Shaktibarre instructor.

Really love these barre classes, Portia was really great! A good mix of making sure you were comfortable in the exercises as well as pushing you.

I had the pleasure of working with Portia after having a several surgeries. I had past experiences with several types of yoga but was apprehensive to resume my training. My confidence along with my upper body strength was weak! Portia was the perfect instructor. I found her sensitive, caring, kind and when needed firm and persistent. Of course, no need to mention she is a well trained professional. She greeted me on the first day by asking what my goals were and established a workable plan of action. This plan included the type of music I enjoyed working with to how much time had available to practice on my own. No question was unimportant or irrelevant. Her firmness and persistent nature was seen when I wanted to stop and not challenge myself! She is awesome and I am happy that I had the opportunity to work with her.
