About John

Hi, regular guy, ex-NAVY corpsman. I like helping others perform activities of daily living as best they can. The body was made for movement and can be enhanced through deliberate action.
I like to use a variety of techniques to keep it stimulating yet simple including integrated circuits, aerobic movement with balance and flexibility, using Jenntam-ryu method of Yoshi-do core stability and strength training.
I work with pre and post surgery and after physical therapy.
I’ve worked with Pro and amateur athletes in martial arts, running, and stunt work and dancers.
I like to work with people who can see the benefits of fitness in their lives and have the right mindset. I'm 420 freindly.

I've spent the last 13 years working as a Physical Therapy Aide directing all the clients exercise programs for the therapist.

I’m a Type 2 diabetic, and kidney cancer survivor who is grateful for each day, so I like to have fun and keep the sessions doable. I'm a runner, so I do 5K-10k, half and full marathon training.

This is not for Olympic or powerlifting or cross fit but integrated fitness training with sport specific training, for a healthy lifestyle maintenance program. I teach core conditioning for LPHC stability using the Jenntam-ryu method of Yoshi-do training.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon. John Hammond, USNHM, NASM CPT, CES, MACCS. Graduate SOCHI Physical Therapy Aide Rehabilitation Specialist.

My favorite client story

Usually when it “clicks “ in the clients mind and they are receptive from some understanding of what they are doing.
I have given my favorites in my reviews but it’s fun when a nervous new knee replacement suddenly becomes empowered with their true ability and understanding what they are capable of, and next thing you know they have a “posse” at the Y and they’re banging and clanging away feeling good about themselves.

My favorite exercise

Running, which is not really an exercise, but a “doing and being “thing. All the exercises that add up to better running. I’m a track and field athlete and running is my laughing place.

“ The Art did not fail you, you failed the Art.” Guro Ron Balicki

One year ago! decided that I needed to make some changes in my life. I was over weight, out of shape, tired all the time and a bit depressed. I picked up the phone and called the fitness center at Mid Valley. That's when I first met John Hammond my soon to be personal trainer. He convinced me to come down to the club and discuss the changes that I wanted to make and goals that I wanted to reach. A few days later l began my joumey. Jonn developed an exercise program designed to help me reach my goals of burning fat, building lean muscle, and becoming more physically fit. John has been right there beside me to give me a push when I need it, explains what we are doing thoroughly and so that ! understand and most of all is always full of encouragement. During this past year I have seen a drastic change in my body, mind and spirit.I’ve dropped two dress sizes my energy level has never been so high, and my physical strength is incredible. Our family enjoys water skiing and I can't believe the difference in my endurance and balance while on my ski. I have never felt better in my life. Recently, I completed my first Sprint (mini triathion). The course consisted of a 400 yd. swim, 10 mile bike, and a 3 mile run. My goal was to finish, but to my amazement, I finished first in my age division. Not too shabby for a 53 year old! My accomplishment would not have been possible without the support and superb training that I received from my personal trainer John Hammond. The strength and cardio training program he prepared for me enabled me to develop and perform at my optimal best in all three areas of the competition. Three months ago I could hardly run two minutes. However, with the walk-run program John set up for me l am now running three miles three times a week. Plus, my swim and bike distances continue to increase. John not only prepared me phsically, but mentally as well. Reminding me to always maintain a positive attitude and to visualize my goal. He never let me think that I was anything other than a winner. I cannot thank him enough for what he has taught me.

I would like to recommend John Hammond to be a Private Trainer for ANYONE. In June, I tore my minescus (in my knee). I worked in a restaurant and had to quit my job. My doctor said to put it up and ice it for 6 weeks. I had surgery to correct the tear and since I had not walked on that leg for 2 months I needed to adjust my body to correctly walk, bend and reach. Tasked John to help me with rehabilitation and to find out what was causing me to have these tears in my minescus. He spent 8 weeks correcting my body alignment and giving me exercises to strengthen my knees. We are now working on my core, that anchors my whole body and creates stabilization for all my muscles. I am excited to know that I could renew my stamina, endurance and flexibility. Surgery alone doesn't create the wholeness in the body. Wholeness requires practice, mental attitude and training. John watches to see that I am correctly aligned and pushes me enough to the level that ! should see results. I am now walking an hour a day, eating healthy foods and keeping a positive attitude towards my body which is the temple which houses my soul. Thank you John, for being a stand for my health and well-being.
