About Brian
I have been a military contractor for more than twenty-eight (28) years...and specialize in helping service members max out their Physical Training (PT) scores. I have been sworn law enforcement for fifteen (15) years...and have coached cadets for police academy entry and graduation. I am certified as a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach...both through National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
My favorite client story
While working as defense contractor, my coworkers would ask for advice on exercise and nutrition. However, they all wanted "quick and easy". No one wanted to put in the work required. I finally got one of my male coworkers to agree to being a "test" subject. I had him change his daily eating habits by fasting intermittently and limiting starches and simple carbohydrates. In six months he completely changed his body composition. His transformation was based solely on nutrition. At my request, he did not exercise at all during the six month period.
My favorite exercise
Conventional Deadlift. A lot of people I speak to about fitness fear the conventional deadlift because of the conceived risk to the lower back. If done correctly, the conventional deadlift is a full-body exercise and poses very little risk to the lower back.
My favorite quote
If you want to fail to reach a goal, set a New Year’s resolution. If you want to reach a goal, pick a random Tuesday and get started.
My training philosophy
If I do my job correctly, every client should reach a point where they don't need me anymore. Once a client understands their body and what it needs, they should be able to continue their fitness journey without a guide. I am happy to share my knowledge and experience to empower my clients.
My training experience
When I started Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) in 2011, I was almost dropped from training because I was not prepared for the physical requirements. A fellow cadet helped me learn to breathe properly when I ran...and that was a game changer. I wasn't just one (1) of eight (8) out of the original twenty-two (22) cadets to graduate. At thirty-five (35) years old, I was not the last one to cross the finish line on the mile and a half and I had the second fastest time on the obstacle course. After I graduated and was sworn in at the Sheriff's Office, I took what I had learned and applied it to helping correction officers pass the physical requirements to enroll in BLET. I continued to train and learn, using myself as a "guinea pig" to see what worked and what didn't. I finally got my first National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certification in 2018. After I got certified and focused my learning on anatomy and the digestive system. I wanted to know how the human body worked, when I worked correctly. It was during this phase of learning that I discovered the science behind both exercise and nutrition. I also discovered that I could not talk to clients about their fitness without discussing how and what they ate. This is when I decided to get my Nutrition Coach certification. At forty-nine (49) years old, I continue to learn and to push myself. I share my knowledge and experience with every client and I learn from every client.
