About Clay

You can expect to get in the best shape of your life and have fun doing it. As your coach I'll help you decide EXACTLY what you want and provide action steps to get there.

I think exercise should be fun and engaging. There is a lot that goes into programming but fun is one of the most important aspects. If you enjoy what you're doing you're likely to stick with it. It's all about finding the balance that best fits you.

My favorite client story

It's hard to choose one, but the story of Alison may be closest to my heart. In the fall of 2009 I met with a woman who had never belonged to a gym and did not have any history of physical activity. At the time she was in her late 30's and well over 300 pounds. During our first meeting I could tell she was very uncomfortable being in a totally new environment as is difficult for anyone. Thinking back on it, I now realize the courage it must have taken her to come through those doors. In our first session I was able to establish a degree of trust and from their our training began. Within one year she lost over 130 pounds, which is a commendable achievement in of itself. But best of all, she has kept that weight off and has made fitness her lifestyle competing in triathlons, mud runs, doing boot camp classes and balancing her diet. She is still a client to this day and a very dear friend.

My favorite exercise

The squat. It is the most fundamental and most effective exercise there is. When done correctly, the squat is very safe and can dramatically improve strength head to toe. A common misconception is the squat is hard on the knees. This is false. In fact if executed with form it is therapeutic for the knee joint.

My training experience

I started Personal Training while attending Northwest Missouri State University then went on to work for a large company where I did personal training and management for 2 years. After gaining some initial experience for the first 2 years I decided to go out on my own and contract with more private facilities where I established a niche for helping people lose weight. In my 7 years of experience I estimate I've trained and helped over 200 clients reach their goals. Along the way I've collected several certifications including: NASM CES, PES, CPT, CrossFit level 1 and currently I'm working on my NSCA certified strength and conditioning specialist.
