While living in Chicago I had the pleasure of working with one of the producers on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" To this day she was my most dedicated and successful client. Proper fitness instruction and nutritional guidance coupled with hard work and determination led her to safely lose 120 lbs during the course of 18 months of training with me. In the beginning she was barely able to stand on 1 foot and balance. Within one year she had successfully completed two 5-K races and a 50 story stair climb. Her dedication to intense training with me and her strong adherence to my nutritional guidance led her to reach a goal she never thought possible. She was finally able to live the more functional and balanced lifestyle that she had been trying to accomplish on her own for years.
My favorite exercise
Any compound exercise that involves the legs. Using the leg muscles increases heartrate, burns more calories and helps keep the body metabolic after a workout. Examples would be squat presses, clean and presses and squat/curl/press with dumbbells. Kettlebells are also a great compound exercise that burn lots of calories, build metabolic burning muscle and shape and strengthen the core, legs, glutes and back. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) such as sprints, cone drills, speed/agility training and Tabatas are proven to make your body MORE effective at burning calories for increased periods post workout than performing steady state cardio alone.

My training experience
My passion for fitness is evident by my involvement in fitness over the past 20 years and the countless testimonials received from a diverse client base. I hold the title of NASM's Master Trainer (MT) which is reserved for the most elite trainers in the industry and only accepts 50 trainers per year. I am also certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and hold several advanced certifications including a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) specializing in sport specific training, a Fitness Nutrition Specialist (FNS) dealing specifically with the nutritional counseling and dietary needs of clients and a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) that enables me to understand complex postural distortions, clients with previous injuries and those seeking post-rehab guidance. The structure, discipline and rigorous requirements of bodybuilding made me not only stronger physically but gave me an in-depth understanding of taking the body to the next level and the mental struggles associated with achieving such intense fitness goals. I was now able to take my own fitness journey through bodybuilding and apply it to achieving my client's fitness goals and aspirations.

I have known Aaron for more than a decade. We began training together in 2004 at a gym in Chicago. I had worked with personal trainers prior to Aaron, but it was immediately apparent that training with Aaron was a step up from any of my prior training programs. He took the time to understand my workout history, current goals and prior injuries. He understood and accommodated my demanding and unpredictable work/travel schedule and he helped me design a program that was challenging, but realistic. Aaron also recognized early on that I wanted to understand what we were doing and why and he took the time to explain things and answer my questions, which transformed my commitment to my work out routines and to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
In the eight-plus years that I’ve been training with Aaron, my personal fitness evolution has had many ebbs and flows, which is why I place such a high value on the consistency and flexibility that Aaron has always brought to our working relationship. I work in the marketing services industry, which generally means an inconsistent schedule, extensive travel and lots of stress. Aaron has always deftly navigated those lifestyle obstacles to keep me on track with my fitness goals. That has meant anything from customized routines I can do on the road to special “stress-relieving workouts” to ongoing encouragement and inspiration. Aaron’s bespoke approach to training has ensured that there’s always a way for me to make fitness a priority.
Aaron is by far the best, most professional, and most engaging personal trainer I have ever worked with in the Unites States. In his training with me, Aaron emphasizes posture, technique, breathing and a balanced body (as opposed to a body with, say, an enormous chest and spindly, toothpick legs). He is articulate and can explain why he wants an exercise to look and be done a certain way. The fact that he is a competitive body builder himself and is obviously extremely knowledgeable about the kinds of exercises that affect different muscles – this inspires confidence and trust. Aaron is also funny, interested, compelling and pleasant. But he is also extremely sensitive – if I don’t want to talk much during a session because I just want to focus on the training, he reads that and accommodates without making me feel like he thinks I am being impolite or in a sour mood. I have enormous respect for Aaron’s professionalism, which has had the highly desirable consequence of making me looking good! I will deeply, sorely miss him when he moves to Los Angeles. However, I know that Aaron has been talking about wanting to leave Chicago for several years now (as the city comes more and more to resemble Siberia in terms of the length and intensity of its winters, he is far from the only one looking to get out). I also know that he is hungry for new challenges – he wants to go further than he is now, to build on and supplement what he already knows with new techniques, new methods, new challenges, and new clients.
When I first met Aaron I was a class A couch potato with a serious food addiction. And, as an overscheduled, stressed out employee at the #1 rated talk show in the country, I had little time to do anything about it. Truth be told, I didn’t have the inclination to make my needs a priority. It was always about others. But, I didn’t feel good. My back was going out regularly, I was tired and just generally miserable. So, I thought I’d give it a go... again. My goal: To lose 100 pounds. Enter Aaron. I’ll never forget the day we met. On bad days he would never scold. He’d just veer me back on the path. Okay, well, he did scold occasionally – when I wasn’t eating enough! (Who knew that was a thing?) There were times where I would dip my calories super low because I was very motivated and wanted to do the best I could. But, he’d remind me that I had to eat to lose. And, he was right. In 10 months I lost my 100 pounds. A couple years ago I had to leave Chicago. My talk show ended its 25 year run and I was on to my next big adventure – working on the #1 health website on the internet (health…who would have guessed?!). So, on a fateful day in the summer of 2012 we had to part ways. I have searched high and low to find someone in my neck of the woods that can hold a candle to Aaron – to no avail. Aaron Guy is unique. A star. The real deal.
Aaron has trained me for approximately the past 6 years, helping me to achieve and exceed my goals for strength, athletic conditioning, and weight loss. As a self-employed entrepreneur, Aaron’s independent mindset, professional demeanor, and discipline mesh well with my philosophy for life. I consider Aaron not only my trainer but a friend who I trust and look to for inspiration, inside and outside the gym. Six years ago, I came to Aaron as an already athletic person, looking to challenge my body and take it to the next level. Aaron introduced me to plyometric exercises and kettlebells, and immediately I was hooked! Aaron’s knowledge of kettlebells is especially impressive, and I’m confident performing the exercises on my own, knowing that he’s provided me with the proper training. We also began to add traditional weight training, which has brought a great balance to my workouts. Soon enough, I was beginning to see the changes I wanted in my body and was ecstatic to have him continue coaching my journey. As an avid runner and biker outside of the gym, Aaron also understands my needs as a cross-training athlete. While training with him, I’ve completed about a dozen half-marathons and two full marathons. When I’ve suffered from injuries such as plantar fasciitis, Aaron recommended therapies that would not only treat but help prevent future incidents. When he knows I have an event approaching, he’s sure to recommend stretching and therapies that I should do to prepare. I’ve also sustained a few injuries related to strength training, which Aaron has helped me work around to maximize my workout as well as help them heal. I can wholeheartedly recommend Aaron as your next personal trainer.
I have been working with Aaron for six years, and he has trained with me through numerous goals and milestones in my life. In my second year of training with Aaron, I began preparing for my wedding. As many people do, I wanted everything to look perfect on my big day, especially my body. I had high standards for this, and the results that I achieved with Aaron were amazing. In my fourth year of training with Aaron, I became pregnant with my first child and was highly motivated to stay healthy throughout (and after) my pregnancy. My doctor and all of my nurses were astounded at how quickly I recovered, and this was attributed to the great condition of my body going into surgery. Training with Aaron not only helped me maintain a healthy pregnancy, but significantly impacted the recovery from my surgery. Aaron is a fabulous trainer, who is more than qualified to prepare his clients for many different stages of life. I am fortunate to have had him along side of me over the past six years, as he has been a great mentor to me. Beyond his incredible personal training skills, Aaron also has a fabulous personality. Aaron Guy is your next trainer - that is if you want a trainer that "walks the walk" with impressive First Place ranking in bodybuilding competitions, a vast (and I mean vast) knowledge of nutritional supplements - as in what to use right now, and what to avoid on the shelf at GNC, and has a perfect blend of motivation, punctuality, and guidance that makes the process of getting in shape or building more muscle safe, fun, and most important - helps you to realize a new body is within your grasp. I am incredibly lucky to have Aaron as my trainer. There are many trainers available but Aaron has the traits that we all look for in a superior trainer. First, he is always on time - and that is a rare trait within the Training World! Second, Aaron knows his way around a gym. His knowledge of equipment and free-weights is amazing. And along with his expertise of technique, he always, always puts safety first. I like that! I'm over 50 and keeping my joints healthy is foremost in my workouts. Aaron gets that completely. And third, Aaron is a blast to have as a trainer! His cool sense of humor takes away the drudgery of hitting the gym regularly. I've been training with Aaron for over a year now, and I have to say he's amazing! Weather your looking to bulk up or rehab an injury you'll find Aaron to be completely knowledgeable in every area of fitness. I initially started training with him to enhance my workouts. Aaron kicks my butt every time I see him! Ive trained with many trainers over the years and he is by far the best Ive ever experienced. He makes working out fun, but still keeps it serious and focused. He's always continuing his education, so our workouts stay fresh and exciting. Aaron is also an expert when it comes to rehabbing injuries. I sustained a knee injury at work and Aaron has helped me 1000% more than the physical therapist at the doctors office ever did. I have been so pleased with his dedication to help me get back on my feet and back to my normal routine. There is an endless amount of trainers in Los Angeles, but im confident in saying no one can compare to Aaron. He's courteous, professional, knowledgeable and very motivating. I'm training with Aaron for 9 months and let me tell you - he is the guy to go. He's knowledgeable and friendly. Aaron has a very diverse program, we use weights, trx, cables, kettlebells. Paying attention to warm ups, core exercises, stretching. He also pays attention to details, angles, precision of each exercise, reps and intervals. Everything is important for archiving your goals. And he makes it happen, that's why I do continue with him.
I definitely agree with all the other 5-star reviews, and I'll just add that Aaron is hands-down the best trainer I've ever worked with. He's extremely knowledgeable and has just the right balance of paying attention to how you feel vs. pushing you to go just a bit further than you thought you could. To be clear, I am not someone who likes to exercise, but somehow spending an hour sweating my face off with Aaron is a very positive experience and I always look forward to my sessions with him.

I have had many trainers over the years. One of the things that separates the good trainers from the great trainers is that the great trainers consistently work on themselves alongside you. They take classes, they read, they get new certifications. To me, a truly great trainer is constantly learning, because there is almost always new information coming out about how to improve your health. I have known Aaron for a few years now, and consider him to be one of the best. He listens to you when you talk about your goals, and puts serious thought into how he helps you craft a training program. He is thoughtful, organized, and scrupulous in his attention to detail on your body, your program, and your well-being. He also is constantly reading. When you're training, he loves to share pieces of information based on the certifications or programs he's studying. It is also worth mentioning that he "walks the walk," and is in exemplary shape himself, which is quite inspiring. In my second year of training with Aaron, I began preparing for my wedding. As many people do, I wanted everything to look perfect on my big day, especially my body. I had high standards for this, and the results that I achieved with Aaron were amazing. My dress fit like a glove and every part of my body was toned and well defined. It's important to note that this was not achieved by fad dieting or any unrealistic last minute workout plan, but through consistent hard work with both exercise and diet in mind. In my fourth year of training with Aaron, I became pregnant with my first child and was highly motivated to stay healthy throughout (and after) my pregnancy. Aaron worked very closely with me, always monitoring my doctors advice and having me check in with her regarding our workouts. We continued these workouts throughout my entire pregnancy, making necessary modifications for my body and heart rate targets. Ultimately, my son was born through an emergency c-section, meaning that I had a somewhat more difficult road to recovery ahead of me. My doctor and all of my nurses were astounded at how quickly I recovered, and this was attributed to the great condition of my body going into surgery. Training with Aaron not only helped me maintain a healthy pregnancy, but significantly impacted the recovery from my surgery. Once I was cleared to exercise again, Aaron helped me work within my doctor's orders to get back into shape. He was careful to stay within the limits of my post-op orders, while still making sure that we achieved results. I am now in my sixth year of training with Aaron, and in my second pregnancy. I look forward to maintaining another healthy pregnancy and recovery, thanks to Aaron. Aaron is one of the most educated trainers I've come across. Training with him is probably the best decision I've made. He takes me through correct mobility exercises to prepare my body for our workouts. He focuses on the personal needs of his clients. I have known Aaron for a number of years before I started being trained by him. When he announced three years ago that he was starting his own private personal training business at a non-contract gym in Chicago, I jumped at the chance to be trained by him as I had reached a plateau and outgrown the equipment available at the gym I belonged to. I had been trained by a couple other trainers prior to going with Aaron, and while each trainer was good in their own right, Aaron went above and beyond my previous trainers. In addition to completing the typical initial paperwork and goals for training, he asked that I submit a weekly food diary where he would provide me feedback with my diet by guiding me with what I should keep, get rid of, or add to my diet. I had learned more about my diet from Aaron, than my previous trainers. While being trained by him, I noticed that he is very dedicated to his craft. He strives to maintain his body in shape to not only practice what he preaches, but to be inspiring to his clients. He also concerns himself in making sure that he exhibits a professional appearance and attitude. He takes the time to demonstrate exercises, and observes intently in making sure you maintain correct form. He welcomes his clients to ask questions (e.g., what is the difference between a hack squat and a regular squat?). He is very encouraging, especially when you hit a hiccup, he always finds something positive to say. He seldom cancels sessions unless he's very sick or out of town. Even when we're not able to meet for a training session, he is never incommunicado. Without Aaron's help, I would not be able to achieve a weight goal prior to him moving to California. Even though I no longer am being trained by Aaron because of his move, he continues to reach out to me to see how well I am working with my new trainer, and asked that I continue to share with him my weekly weigh-ins!

From trendy neighborhood health clubs to hardcore weight training gyms - and from stressed-out executives to stay-at-home moms - I believe Aaron's client service finesse and adaptable emotional intelligence are key factors to his success. As an "exercise explorer" myself, I tend to need a lot of change in order to prevent boredom (and lapsed commitment). For example, I've also fanatically embraced cycling, yoga, swimming and a whole host of cross-training classes during the time I trained with Aaron. When I had favorite new exercises from classes, Aaron was quick to incorporate similar moves into our work together, in order to keep me challenged and enthused. Along the way, I improved, learned and stayed committed. During the time we trained together, I was also faced with an assortment of minor injuries (shoulders, knees, lower back). Every time I was dealing with one of these impediments, I was amazed by Aaron's knowledge of physiology and his ability to customize our workouts to accommodate the injuries and guide me toward recovery. Any one of those injuries would have been an easy excuse to put my workouts on hold - but Aaron never let me get away with that! As an enthusiastic evangelist for the power of making fitness a regular habit, he knew that keeping me focused through injuries was key to keeping me on track with my fitness goals.
