About Daniel

I am extremely passionate about getting the most out of those I work with and being a positive influence in their lives. I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who has worked with athletes from over 30 different sports. See more at ThriveMovement. Fit Although my specialty is athletic training, I love working with people from all training levels and walks of life. My primary goal is to help people move better and enhance their health and well being!

My primary philosophy is based around Applied Functional Science, the study of the body from a biomechanical perspective as it functions in sport and life.

I work with dozens of athletes and clients every year. The best thing I experience is when those individuals begin to demonstrate an understanding and mastery of their training. My goal is to teach those I work with so that they are empowered to become their own coach.

My training philosophy

My primary philosophy is based around Applied Functional Science, the study of the body from a biomechanical perspective as it functions in sport and life.

My training experience

In addition to founding Thrive, Dan is also the Coordinator of Sports Science with Maryland Basketball. In this role, he assists the Director of Basketball Performance with the daily training sessions for Men's and Women's Basketball. He is also responsible for all data collection, analytics, and presentation for both teams in order to enhance athlete readiness, performance, and recovery throughout the season. In addition to the University of Maryland, Black worked in sports performance at the University of Texas, Georgetown University and The George Washington University. Black received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland and is currently completing his Master's Thesis in Performance Analytics and Data Science from The George Washington University. Black is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also a certified Level-1 Nutrition Coach from Precision Nutrition, a certified Functional Movement Screen Specialist, and holds a Certificate in Applied Functional Science from the Gray Institute. He also completes coursework in Data Science and Analytics.
