About Gerard
Gerard Welch | Elite Personal Trainer & MMA Specialist
Looking for a dynamic, results-driven approach to fitness? Whether you're a busy professional looking to stay in peak shape, an athlete aiming to sharpen your agility, or someone who simply wants to move better and feel stronger, I’ve got you covered.
With over five years of experience, I specialize in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and functional training, helping clients of all fitness levels—from executives to weekend warriors—build endurance, power, and confidence. My training isn’t just about lifting weights or running on a treadmill; it’s about movement, efficiency, and practical strength that carries over into real life.
A session with me is more than just a workout—it’s an experience. Expect a tailored program designed around your goals, whether that’s improving mobility, mastering self-defense techniques, increasing flexibility, or breaking through fitness plateaus. My background in skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, capoeira, rock climbing, boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and MMA gives me a unique perspective on movement, allowing me to create training that is both challenging and engaging.
Clients appreciate my patience, adaptability, and ability to push them beyond what they thought was possible—all while keeping the process enjoyable. If you’re looking for a coach who understands your lifestyle, respects your time, and delivers serious results, let’s work together.
Ready to elevate your training? Let’s get started.
My favorite exercise
If I had to pick just one exercise that delivers real-world strength, endurance, and total-body power, it’s the sandbag lift. Unlike a barbell or dumbbell, a sandbag is constantly shifting, forcing your muscles to work harder to stabilize and control the movement. It builds raw strength, grip endurance, and explosive power—all while mimicking the kind of strength you actually need in daily life or combat sports.
My favorite quote
"Just do it." I believe in taking action, pushing forward, and putting in the work. But I also know that progress isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes, we have to scale things back, adjust, and rebuild before we level up. The key is to keep moving—whether it’s full speed ahead or one step at a time. Just do it.
My training philosophy
Do what you can with what you have. Start where you are. Fitness isn’t about waiting for the “perfect” conditions—it’s about taking action with what’s available to you right now. Whether you have a full gym, a sandbag, or just your bodyweight, there’s always a way to build strength, endurance, and confidence.
