About Ben
Norwalk, CT native livng in Fairfield! Growing up I had several influences that kept me exercising and leading me in the right direction of nutrition to follow sports like baseball, rugby and soccer. I initially went to Saint Michaels' college in VT and then transferred to SCSU for exercise science, but narrowed down my studies to nutrition and sociology. By senior year I got experience in the fitness field with an opportunity at Yale's strength and conditioning program to assess athletes form and learn programming. That was enough to get me started on studying for my personal training certification.
Within the 5 years of personal training after colllege, I started as a personal trainer at a local YMCA falling in love with helping people, encouraging a safe environment. This included athletes preparing for their sports season/in season conditioning, clients with restrictied shoulder ability, scoleosis and others looking for strength training and mobility work. I also got into coacing for Orangetheory to gain more experience for whatever else came down the line.
A typical session always begins with a warm up, then we structure a few exercises to assess what we are getting done for the day and finisher/cool down to send you on your way. Of coure we'll be conversing throughout to build comfortbility and communication. As we progress we'll be experiencing more and more challenges to upgrade your routine!
I became a trainer because this field has all the potential in helping people with anything and how to live life better in such supportive communities that challenges the mind/body in all aspects; there's so many ways to do it. I always told myself I want to be the reason that someone wants to get moving.
My favorite client story
After a few sessions and given homework, John, who I lucked out with living down the street, never used to do exercise on his own since his younger days. When reintroducing him back to jumping jacks and step ups with other simple exercise, he gets thrilled every time I come by to remind me "Hey, you'd be proud...I got my jumping jacks done this morning" and his wife would go with a laugh, "no he didn't" and he'd shoot back, "don't be jealous just because he's my trainer." Always a great time with john. It means we've created a positive and safe environment for his fitness.
My favorite exercise
Single balance any exercise (overhead press/bicep curl/front raise) because balance is something everyone lacks and challenges a lot of muscles very quickly. This will require more than 10 consecutive seconds ;), which has been from studies that adds a year or 2 to your life.
My favorite quote
"hey man, if it was easy, everyone would do it"
My training philosophy
Consistency conquers everything. All starting with nutrition.
My training experience
started as a trainer at a YMCA training athletes to the elder population and people just looking for simple exercise, mixing in Orangetheory coaching a few months after. Soon I developed private clients through word of mouth and social media.
