Hello everyone! My name is Julie Bigelow, I'm 28 years old and live in Bonita Springs, FL. I have always loved sports and fitness and I played college softball at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. I got my degree in Athletic Training and have been the Head Athletic Trainer at Seacrest Country Day School in Naples, FL for the past 6 years. In December 2017 I got my masters degree in injury prevention/performance enhancement and rehab science from California University of Pennsylvania. In May of 2018 I decided to focus on my own health and fitness and fell in love with it again, and that's when I decided I wanted to become a personal trainer to help other people reach their goals and perform better. In August of 2018 I got my personal trainer certification from ACE and have been training clients and running weekly bootcamps ever since! I hope to one day open up my own training facility with my fiance but in the meantime, I can travel to your home or we can meet at a local park as I have a lot of my own equipment. I'm still working at the high school so my available is morning during the week, and anytime on weekends. I love doing corrective exercise and functional training, and I specialize in working with softball players. I'm a huge fan of circuit training and incorporating cardio into the workouts.
I have always been interested in fitness and feeling good. I decided in my mid-fifties that I had enough of the corporate world set out to become a personal trainer. I certified with ACE Fitness in 2007 and set out to find a position any local studio or gym that would hire me. I found that most businesses were interested in young, lean athletic trainers and I was turned down everywhere.
That initial rejection turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. I formed my own little company, and began encouraging people who were not comfortable in a gym or studio to come work out with me at their homes, and community gyms. My clients were fighting back pain, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, overweight and general discomfort and discouragement. Together we fought to regain strength, mobility and endurance. We motivated each other and cheered results.
I kept learning specialties and kept educating myself so I could pass new techniques, research and knowledge to share. It is my pleasure to welcome you, if you choose to train with me for general fitness, mat Pilates or yoga.
As a newer mom myself, I enjoy helping other moms recover from pregnancy & shrink their waists from the inside through diet & exercise. Most moms can't figure out on their own why their waists won't go down & why they still look pregnant... it's because of an abdominal separation during & after pregnancy called Diastasis Recti. I am an advocate of educating women to properly recover their core after having babies or gaining excess weight as an adult.
I am very easy to get along with and am an open book when it comes to fitness. You can ask me anything, anytime! My goal for my clients it to orient them to starting & completing an exercise program, being confident to exercise on their own & of course helping them reach their weight loss goals along the way. I will hapilly train my clients for life; however, I prefer to help them gain the confidence to exercise & meal plan on their own by developing the skillset to do so during our trainer-client relationship.
Trainers do not always educate their clients along the way & often insist that they just do what they're told,... to follow the plan because it works. At least that was my personal experience. I was previously an NPC Bikini Competitor training with a well known fitness team & I absolutely loved seeing my body transform. At the peak of my competition career, tons of gym members, co-workers, friends & family constantly asked me for gym advice & to show them how to exercise. I loved helping people get started in the gym & ultimately I decided to pursue it as a career, transitioning part-time during evenings & weekends to build my client base.
My initial certifications included Insanity Live Instructor (July 2013), NASM Certified Personal Trainer (August 2013) & Piloxing (May 2015). I've since taught various class formats such as Butts & Guts, Kickboxing, Body Sculpt, Cardio Sculpt, Stretch, Silver Sneakers, Pilates & more! I've worked at various gyms including Gold's Gym, Anytime Fitness, Brickhouse Cardio Club, Health & Strength & Black Belt Taekwondo.
I run a free fitness community called 239 Fit Moms, various online fitness challenges, 4, 8 & 12-week online fitness programs for moms & women as well as train clients virtually online from anywhere.
