About Annika

Annika currently works as a Physical Therapist in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago. She holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Hartford in Connecticut, where she played Division I soccer.

Prior to moving to Chicago, Annika ran a fitness studio with her family in her hometown of Portland, Maine. There, she found her passion for functional fitness and holistic health and wellness. Since moving to the Windy City, she has provided in-home personal training services to clients throughout the northern Chicagoland area.

In both her roles as Physical Therapist and Personal Trainer, Annika is committed to empowering her clients to live well in all aspects of their lives. She balances her comprehensive, integrative approach with gentle guidance, education and a sense of humor.

After suffering a head and neck injury, I experienced constant pain for over a year that was affecting all aspects of my life. Any advice or assistance I had received during this period never fully brought me relief from my discomfort. In the course of my constant search for help, I was fortune to find Annika on the FYT site. I was very pleased to see that her credentials and experience were extensive and reached out to her via the site. She responded quickly and we began to work together for the next several months. During this time, Annika created treatment routines for me that consisted of stretches and exercises that helped to support and strengthen the muscles that were being impacted by my injuries. Her help was invaluable in helping me to return to normal functioning within a relatively short period of time. Annika is extremely pleasant and easy to work with and could not have been more patient or kind during the time we worked together. I highly recommend her!

I am a 53 year old living with HIV and peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage to my feet), lower back problems, tennis elbow and a torn rotator cuff. In recent years, it’s been harder and harder for me to exercise. Enter Annika Michaels. After working with Annika for 6 months, I am stronger, more flexible and more durable. Annika taught me how to strengthen my core, which has decreased the frequency, duration, and severity of my lower back pain.
