About Dan

NOTE:  Eastern Time Zone.  LOCATION:  Detroit MI.  My background: 12 years at a medically supervised fitness center as a Fitness Specialist. I also was a technician for Cardiac Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy members at the same fitness center. 17 years as a Certified Personal Trainer. In September of 2020, the owner (a hospital) decided to close the fitness center due to Covid-19. Since that time I have continued to train ex-clients virtually, in their homes or outdoors.  My objective is to assist you in reaching your fitness goals, no matter your starting point.  NOTE:  COVID-19 VACCINATED.  In the near future, I will certify as a "Functional Aging Specialist" which will give me expertise in dealing with "Active Agers".  This specialization will allow me to provide a better client experience than a Personal Trainer.

My favorite quote

Exercise IS medicine. If they could put it in a pill it would be the most prescribed drug in the world!

My training philosophy

Everyone can exercise regularly in a safe, fun, and realistic manner, no matter your age, current activity level or physical limitation. Measure progress with “baby steps” mentality so momentum can be achieved.

My training experience

I have done thousands of fitness assessments over the decades and this has given me exposure to a wide spectrum of people. In other words, a wide variety of physical limitations and fitness levels, a wide variety of ages and personalities.

Dan continues to offer a wonderful way to keep exercising during the pandemic. He is consistent in his approach to the exercise experience. He offers a variety of exercise patterns so as not to bore the client. He has a sensitivity to the client's needs, and an awareness of time so as not to short change you. He keeps a record of your growth or strengthening. His humor and stories keep you comfortable while you cool down at the end of your session. He has a positivity that helps reinforce the importance of exercise.

I strongly recommend Dan Hysong as a trainer. I initially did my personal training with Dan at a gym. When the gym shut down, I started working with him online. This has worked out very well. At first, I was a bit leery because I don't have the kind of machines at home that we had at the gym. Fortunately, Dan was able to do a good job of building effective workouts using the equipment (mainly dumbbells and an inflatable ball) I have on hand. Dan is a very conscientious trainer. He keeps notes of my progress and pays attention to timing the routines in my workouts. I'm getting older, and Dan has done a lot to help me with balance and maintaining muscle strength. You might think I could do that myself, but I find that it is really helpful to have a trainer like Dan who has an excellent sense of how much to push me. He pushes me harder than I'd push myself, and I wind up glad that he did. In addition, Dan has helped me work through a number of special issues ranging from pulled muscles and plantar fasciitis to recovery from abdominal surgery. I'm always amazed when I describe some ache or pain and he sets up a stretch to relieve it. There is no question that this has improved my quality of life.

After severe hip and shoulder injury, I was skeptical if Dan's Virtual Therapy would assist me in gaining my independence. After nine months of his virtual exercise program, which was consistent and adaptable to my physical needs, I am able to independently take care of most of my personal needs and some household chores. To much delight, I was extremely pleased I could stand and cook an entire meal and clean up afterward. The virtual experience allowed me the convenience of being at home and using the exercise equipment here for additional practice. Not only did he meet my physical needs but was cooperative in adapting to my schedule. I am quite startled at the number of daily tasks I can complete independently. Dan is positive, patient, and persistent. I highly recommend his program.

Dan is great. Dan has been able to design an excellent plan for me. I have some health issues that impede my ability to do certain things, but the workout is just my speed, with a little push, and I am very happy with it.

Dan my trainer helped me to get back on my bicycle after many years of not riding. I lost my confidence and couldn’t get back on my bicycle . Dan has helped me get back to riding again
