Hi all, and thanks for taking the time to read my bio.

Exercise, particularly weightlifting has been a big part of my life since I was a teenager. I still enjoy working out as much as I always have but my motivation for keeping it up has certainly changed over the years. Way back then I was totally focused on the aesthetics. Like most young men getting big was what I was after. The lasting physiological and psychological aspects of exercise did not become a motivating factor until much later.

Life takes over, we get off track and at my heaviest I was 265 lbs. I smoked too much, I drank too much and my diet was terrible.  I know what it is like to struggle with weight, lack of energy, no motivation and the accompanying mental beat-down that those things bring on and perpetuate. It is a cycle that is extremely difficult to break out of without help. I have been through it, I broke the cycle and I want to help others do it. That was 15 years ago. Now, instead of exercise being a means to an end, exercising itself is the end. I enjoy it, I look forward to it, and I cannot imagine what life would be like without the ability to do it.

The greatest satisfaction I get as a Personal Trainer is to watch a person who never thought they could do it realize that they are doing it! I love seeing the boost in self-confidence that comes when those first changes in weight, size, strength and energy start to show. The cycle that pulls a person down is reversed, it feeds on itself and with coaching and encouragement, there is no stopping you. I love being a part of it, there is nothing like it and that is why I do this.

My favorite client story

A client at a big-box I was working at. Very unsure of himself, shy, awkward. Never saw him talk to anyone. He signed up for training and was with me about four months. He hit it hard, always showed up and never quit. You can make remarkable physical progress in four months and we did, but it was the change in his attitude about himself that was most noticeable. After just that short time training he had tapped into that bit of self-confidence that feeds on itself and he just took off with it. That was a joy to watch. I am really proud I was able to get him started in that transformation.

My favorite exercise

I love arm day! Doesn't everyone?

My favorite quote

A few that have stuck in my mind:

"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity" - Seneca

"The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek" - Joseph Campbell

"Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never. In nothing, great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense." - Sir Winston Churchill

My training philosophy

This is a no-judgment zone. I have been where you are. I know that this can be intimidating and that those stairs are looking mighty steep. No worries! We are going to break it down into manageable steps particular to your program and goals. I will do everything in my power to keep you on track. Accountability is critical and I will call you out on things I see slipping. If I didn’t do that I wouldn’t be doing my job. When you succeed it is your success, if you fail it is my failure.

My training experience

I had been training over the past 20 years but wanted to take what I had to offer to the next level. I became a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer and Weight Loss Specialist on 2015. After working at a big-box gym as a Personal Trainer for a time I decided to try to make a go of this on my own and here we are.

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and needed to lose 15 pounds in 3 months. We did it! Thanks Dan!

I have been working with Dan for six months. He is knowledgeable and pays attention to what I want to do unlike some trainers. He makes it fun too. 30 pounds down and I have a shape again! –

I could not ask for a better trainer than Dan. He responded to my emails and texts quickly. We had a free phone interview so he could know my health issues and learn my goals for the personal training sessions. He is a good listener and also an excellent motivator. His personal training sessions gave me just the kind of workout I needed. He will tailor the personal training sessions to meet your goals and needs. He is also a very nice person and enjoys helping people to improve their health.

Dan is a great trainer. He is very focused on technique in order to give the most effective workout. I can already feel a difference after just a few workouts! He really listens to my concerns and designs workouts to help me reach my goals.
