What's up everyone, my name is Alek Dinesen and I am currently a doctoral candidate in nutritional sciences and your future personal trainer! I am a certified strength and conditioning specialist with a specific focus on weight loss and weight management. I studied biology and chemistry in college before earning my masters in cell and developmental biology with a focus on diabetes and obesity research. This led me to discover my passion in weight management, eventually taking me back to school to earn my PhD in nutritional sciences. I have been training clients since 2015, most of whom have been interested in losing weight, and keeping it off!
I specialize in weight loss, with a healthy, efficient, safe and slow approach to functional movements. Weight loss is not a sprint, nor is it a marathon - it's a lifestyle. Too often I find that individuals are intimidated by the prospect of losing weight - learning how to exercise, manage their calories, building the right mindset. It does not happen over night; it requires a diligent, meticulous, and persistent approach that EVERYONE can accomplish. I started my own business, SoulFit LLC, and we specialize in weight loss but we have taken the common model of "get healthy, be happy" and flipped it upside down. I believe in the motto "Happy Brain, Healthy Body" and that is precisely what kind of program I build for my clients - one that allows you to build and install happiness so that you may build and install a healthy life.
I do not focus on bodybuilding, but rather function-building. Functionality is the foundation of health: moving well, breathing well, thinking well. My clients learn strength training, cardiovascular training, metabolic training, balance, mobility, and flexibility to build the health they are looking for.
The first session I have with every client is a functional movement screen (FMS) so that I may learn about your physical abilities prior to beginning a program. Following that, each session will involve some form of strength training or weight loss training with A LOT of smiles and fun. I am very personable, dedicated and easy-going and my expertise in nutrition and exercise allow me to adapt a training program that is specific for you! Weight loss and sustainable weight loss are two very different things - losing the weight is somewhat easier, but keeping it off can be a real challenge.
