About Marques

Being an IRONMAN Certified Coach is an honor that I consider to be scared and special. Before becoming a triathlon coach, I have been a nationally certified personal trainer for over 30 years. I worked with people from all aspects of life, physical capabilities, and age ranges. My educational background gives me a strong advantage in knowing how the human body works and my knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology allows me to coach my athletes in a safe, scientific way to be able to avoid injuries and to push safely in order to advance. As an IRONMAN Certified Triathlon Coach, I design all my Strength and Conditionaing programs to fit each athlete based on their fitness level and areas of improvement. I lead by example by staying at the top of my game physically and mentally by competing in triathlons, trail running and various endurance events. ? My Philosophy: Triathlon training and racing is challenging. My approach to coaching and racing stems from my belief in the human spirit’s ability to conquer obstacles and difficulties no matter how hard. I can sum up my coaching philosophy in a few words. I believe: ? That hard work, consistency, and persistence will pay off at the end. Chasing Exellence in everything we do, no matter how hard the task. Perseverance is the ability to never give up, even if we fail. We get up and continue regardless of the outcome. Training should mimic racing. We train hard so we can race hard. Nutrition is one of the building blocks of a strong athlete. Another is strength training. Flexibility, yoga, or any form of flexibility modality is crucial for injury prevention. Recovery is an integral part of training and it should be treated as such. Progression and periodization is a smart strategy that takes into account an athlete’s well-being and longevity in this uniquely beautiful sport. Advancement and improvement can only come with training at a higher level. Setting goals that are SMART: Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. I will give you 100% of my time, knowledge, experience, encouragement, and guidance. The rest is up to you!

Before I first met with Marques to talk about my fitness goals I was worried. I wondered if this guy was going to be like every other trainer at your local gym that has minimal knowledge and even less experience. On the recommendation of a friend I gave Marques a try. I was afraid to set up training with a personal fitness trainer, especially after my first experience a few years ago went badly. My trainer then did not understand my goals, made me lift too heavy, and barked at me. I decided I did not want to do this again, but after a few years of struggling with weight, diabetes, and other ailments, I needed help. I live in Bellevue, and looked at many listings for personal trainers in Bellevue trainers and made appointments. Some wanted to push their prices on me even before I met them, others wanted to sell me large packages and seemed more like car salesmen rather than fitness trainers. A friend of a friend brought up the subject about this trainer (Marques)who's supposed to be really good. Reluctantly,I went to see Marques at The Powersource Fitness Studio in Bellevue. I realized immediately that Marques was exactly the opposite of my last trainer. He's knowledgeable, smart, funny, witty, polite, and knew exactly how to handle me. I am very difficult in doing what I am told, but I needed the help to lose the weight and get firmer. He knew how to be respectful of me as a female. My goal was to lose 40 pounds by this past April. I am a 44 year old guy who never lifted weight or even exercised even in high school, but a recent visit to my doctor showed a high cholesterol, and to make things worse, I had an injured knee that prevented me from doing any kind of exercise or any stretching. the doctor ordered exercise, and he referred me to Mr. Garcia. I am glad I have made the adjustment. Now I am better with my diet, my cholesterol is down significantly, and my knee pain has improved tremendously (due to strengthening the muscles around the knee). Marques Garcia is a genius. I will be honest that hated him when he pushes you hard, but I like him when I am not at his gym and I saw the results. It feels amazing.
