About Akeem

Hello and welcome! My name is Akeem Disu. My fitness journey is one that began at a very young age. I was constantly competing with friends and neighborhood kids, and sometimes adults in all sorts of athletic challenges. Sometimes I would gamble my school lunch money in an athletic competition against those much older than me. And while I may not have been victorious every time, I won more than I lost. My share determination and stubbornness to always prove others wrong was my motivation to compete. And that fire still burns in me today.

I have a passion for helping people become a better version of themselves. My hope is to get as many people from a precontemplation stage to maintenance stage of exercise. And if I am successful in doing so, then they can start to enjoy the benefits of a better health, while drastically reducing the risk of various chronic diseases affecting millions of Americans. Have a look at these disturbing statistics. Chronic diseases, such as asthma, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, are widespread and rising dramatically in the United States. Chronic diseases accounts for 70% of the deaths in the United States. Currently, 66% of Americans older than age 20 years of age are overweight. Approximately 34% of Americans are obese (that’s 72 million Americans). Another condition affecting nearly 23 million of Americans is diabetes.

When I decided to exit automotive industry after 15 years, both as a sales professional and as a sales manager, it wasn’t an easy decision. Walking away from a 6-figure guaranteed annual income wasn’t easy, but I wasn’t happy nor was I fulfilled. But with the support of my beautiful wife and my good friend Tony Anthony, I was able to turn my passion into my profession. When it was time to earn my personal training certification, I looked to none other than the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Going into it, I knew that NASM had a lower percentage of exam pass/fail ratio than any other program on the market. Ask anyone in the industry and they will tell you that NASM is tough, which would explain why many trainers stay clear of it. But if I were going to learn, I wanted to learn from the best in the industry. The National Academy of Sports Medicine has been world renowned for the quality of their scientific rigor program.

Let me be honest… I am not your typical personal trainer. I am extremely disciplined and I hold everyone accountable. I take my responsibilities very seriously, and I put my training and experience to work each and every day. More importantly, personal training is not a distraction from my day job. This is my passion and I am 100% committed to serving my clients. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all “cookie-cutter” programs. And I certainly don’t believe in so-called “magic diet pills.” My goal is to help my clients improve the quality of and longevity of their lives, while delivering them with the support necessary to be successful in reaching their individual goals.

As a certified personal trainer, I have a responsibility to help lead my clients down the proper pathways to ensure success. Every client has a different fitness goal, and that’s why “cookie-cutter” fitness programs don’t work. And for this reason, the approach for every client must be tailored differently. As a new client, you can expect a thorough Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q). In addition, you may also be expected to conduct a series of cardiovascular test to gauge your sub-maximal heart rate. I don’t use “gimmicks” or “fads”. And I don’t subscribe to "social media influencer knowledge”. I will take you through the 5 phases of Optimum Performance Training module (OPT).

Look, being out of shape is not the end of the world. It's never too late to put your health back on track. I don’t care about how out of shape or unconditioned you are. Honestly, I could care less how much over your ideal weight you are. If you are committed, willing to listen, and trust in the process, count me in. I will get in the trenches with you.
