About Jamie

Winner of the Top Of The Town 5280 'Best Personal Trainer' award 4 years in a row. I have two degrees, one in neuroscience and another in health and recreation. I use both of these degrees combined with my 20 years of studying under various bodyworkers, chiropractors and physical therapists as well as my experience training Olympic level athletes to make sure that the client in front of me receives exactly the workout, nutrition and lifestyle strategies they need at that moment in their progress. A workout with me is always goal-focused, total body, involves constant joint analysis to make sure all the joints are moving and muscles are working and developing as they should be. A results-guaranteed approach that incorporates all aspects of fitness, not just the physical.. Biography Originally from Australia, Jamie was a professional basketball player before launching a career as a personal trainer coaching athletes competing in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. As much as he enjoyed the work, he realized his true calling was helping everyday people achieve results and improve their lives. He moved to Denver in 2001, and opened Bonza Bodies Small Group Personal Training Studio in 2009. For the last two years running, he has been honored as the "Top Personal Trainer" by 5280 Magazine. Jamie holds a bachelor's degree in neuroscience from Australian National University and a diploma in sports and recreation from Canberra Institute of Technology. As a 'trainer to the trainers', Jamie holds certifications in a variety of disciplines including TRX, FreeMotionFitness and ViPR. He is also a regular contributor to local and national media on health and fitness topics. When it comes to losing weight, Jamie Atlas is not afraid to say it: willpower is overrated. Instead, he advises people to concentrate on creating simple strategies to succeed. His Think. Do. Fuel method empowers people to take control by helping them think about what they put in their bodies, how they move their bodies and how they develop a positive perspective on reaching their goals. His unique, non-intimidating approach has helped thousands of people improve how they look, feel, and move over his 20-year career.

If I've learned anything in the 20 years I've studied under various experts and gurus in their fields, it's been that no one philosophy holds all the answers. I like to use the knowledge I've learned on how to train the body to get the best results the fastest and safest way possible. I use the knowledge from my neuroscience degree to make sure the emotional and mental aspects of training are streamlined to make my clients personal goals as simple and easy as possible to achieve.

My favorite client story

She sat down and cried right there in front of me. I wasn't quite sure what to do, mostly because I was fighting tears back myself. Michelle had come in to see me without much hope. A teenage athletic phenom, an accident in college led to a rabbit hole of multiple other injuries. When I met her, she had undergone a total of 17 surgeries on various joints. She had gained 70 lbs. She was on anti-depressants. She was 27. Hobbling in, Michelle sat on the therapy table and looked at me with hopeless eyes. Her mother sat patiently in the background, listening but not contributing. Michelle told me her story of athletics - of the things her body had once been able to do. I explained to her that I wasn't a therapist, not a chiropractor, not a bodyworker. But I looked her in the eye and told her I was going to help her. But once it was out, I couldn't take it back. I just remember seeing her body the way it was currently moving, the way I wanted it to move and the different muscles and joints that were 'getting in each other's way', so to speak. As the cloud lifted, I stepped back and looked back at her posture. She seemed to be standing taller. her grimace had been replaced with the beginnings of a smile. Taking a leap of faith, I asked her to walk over to the open space in my fitness studio and take a walk. She did so without pain for the first time in 6 years. A smile grew across her face. I then asked her to give me a lunge. She did. Returning back from the lunge position, she started crying. Michelle spoke between breaths: "That is the first time I can remember lunging without pain." I sighed a deep sigh, then immediately stifled emotions, playing it all off as if it happens to me every day. Over the next few months, Michelle went on from that point to return to athletics. Following the food plan she lost the 70 lbs. she had gained, no longer needed her medications and was cleared from being pre-diabetic. Michelle was the client that meant the most to me - that was truly a turning point in her life, and one that I will always be grateful for.

My favorite exercise

The lunge with 1 arm band pull is one of my favorites to recommend to clients for multiple reasons, including fat loss, leg and core strength, upper body posture and athletic performance in general.
