As trivial as that &ldquo;event&rdquo; sound</span></span><span><span>ed</span></span><span><span>, it was something I carried on as I got older.&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>It d</span></span><span><span>rove</span></span><span><span>&nbsp;me to be better..to DO better..Do a lil &ldquo;Extra&rdquo; every single time. With things that matter to me the most:</span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span>-&nbsp;</span></span></span><span><span><span>when a friend&rsquo;s birthday is coming up, I do a little *extra research and thoughtfulness on what is important to him/her at THAT particular moment, and he/she ends up having the most useful, sentimental gift.</span></span></span></span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;<span><span><span><span>-&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>when I&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>got into an accident later on and had to wear a brace(for 9 months) just for me to stand up, I did *extra exercises that weren&rsquo;t prescribed to me(in fact, weirdly enough: I was NOT prescribed any type of exercise therapy whatsover).&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>But I took it to my own terms to get my strength back gradually.</span></span></span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;<span><span><span><span>-&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>whenever I leave for work, I do a little *extra slowing down&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>instead of rushing,&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>so when I open the door I am aware&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>IF</span></span><span><span>&nbsp;1 of my cats are zooming out, and I look back to make sure they are in their&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>safe respective places. That way I know they are home and safe, so I can walk them on a leash later.</span></span></span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;<span><span><span><span>-&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>when I&nbsp;</span></span><span><span>gained over 30 lbs during my college years, I was frustrated and tired. Dissatisfied with my look and confidence. After several errors that may have delayed my progress, I tried *extra workouts and *extra experimentation to learn what worked best for me. By the time I was in my middle teenage years, I made the decision to pursue a career in the realm of Health/Fitness, Sport Performance, Coaching and Martial Arts. the choice was not easy, as I had other areas of interest as well but it made the most sense because Martial Arts and Fitness had been my main passion in life and my family's own poor health history inspired me to make a difference in the world the way I knew best. I later graduated with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Barry University and explored various other forms of Combat Sports training such as Boxing, Wrestling, Muay Thai, Brazilian Ju Jitsu and MMA to blend with my Kung Fu techniques. Along the way I experimented with many different styles of training including weight lifting, calisthenics, Yoga,&nbsp; Qi Gong, speed and agility training, plyometrics, animal flow movements, swimming, biking, rowing and walk/jog programs. Shawn’s fitness and bodybuilding career started early on at the age of fifteen. He originally started weight training for a spot on the football team and quickly found himself staying in the gym for hours on end. During this time, he lost his father and used the gym as a method of therapy, spending up to three hours alone in the gym some nights. <br><br>By the time Shawn was eighteen, he had set the school record in the bench press. With this accomplishment, he formed a group of students looking for a chance to better themselves every day. They would work out every evening and he would create and monitor workouts according to each individual person’s goals. <br><br>Shawn made the decision to join the Minnesota Army National Guard in means to stay fit and help pay for college and was sent to training shortly after graduating high school. Upon returning from training, He continued his fitness journey and was introduced to the sport of bodybuilding. <br><br>He instantly fell in love with the sport and would travel as far as he needed to train at a bodybuilding gym before he found a gym in Minneapolis known as Los Campeones. The second he entered the building; he knew he needed to make Minneapolis his home.<br><br>Shawn created his first online program and sold as many as possible to help fund the move. <p>&nbsp;My fitness journey started around 15 years ago. It started when I decided to sign up for a GYM membership. As I walked in, I immediately felt intimidated by the pro lifters. I thought I wouldn&rsquo;t be able to be like them one day, even though I was dreaming about becoming fit with athletic build every single day. After couple of years, I gave birth to my sweet girl and like every woman who gave birth, I had this mommy tummy after birth and I was so keen to tighten it up and gain my strength back. One of those days, I met one of my neighbors over a morning run. I felt so bad that I wasn&rsquo;t able to run but since she was a fitness trainer she insisted on helping me out with fixing my posture and my running techniques. After few weeks, I started to see progress and since that moment I fell in love with fitness specially after building that confidence that everything is possible. I started running consistently and decided to take part in marathons. After one of those marathons I started to have pain in my hip and decided to see a physical therapist to check that pain out. He advised to incorporate strength and functional training into my regime and focus on core stability as well. From that moment I got really so much into all types of training and I was working in all areas every time I go to the gym to workout. This experience translated into my current training style, where I focus on the correct form in many different types of functional training exercises. Using techniques like TRX, kettlebells, dumbbells, bosu, stepper, bands, and body-weight exercises, I take a holistic approach to training that can benefit anyone of any experience level. There's an initial fitness assessment and medical history that takes place during the first session. The first session is 1.5 hours long but you only pay for the hour.&nbsp;</p><br><p>I start from where you are now (taking into consideration any injuries, or medical issues such as high blood, pressure, diabetes, etc.) to get you from point A to point B. As you master each step, I up the difficulty so you are always gaining results. The routines are varied as we continue and includes, warm up, strength training, aerobic endurance,&nbsp; rehab exercises if needed along with a 10 minutes stretching and cool down to increase range of motion and flexibility.</p><br><p>Although I can train clients from 19-90 years old, my main target market are those ages 35 -70 who are serious about their health. These people can be those who don't fit the "general workout routines" due to injuries (elbow, shoulder, lower back or knees perhaps??) and don't know HOW they can workout without hurting themselves.</p><br><p>They can be those needing motivation especially with new workouts geared to the 35+. year old body. They come to realize that weight does not come off as easily as it did in their 20's. They can be those needing accountability so as not to neglect their health while tending to their careers and many responsibilities.&nbsp;</p><br><p>I offer remote online training so I can reach more people. You don't need a lot of equipment so don't think, "Oh no, I don't have gym set up in my house!" There are ways to work out your body with equipment at hand (furniture, table, body resistance) and if you wish, the few pieces of equipment (should you wish to buy them) are not expensive.&nbsp;</p><br><p>As for me, I've been a certified master trainer since 2003. I have trained clients from 19-90, received certifications in stretching techniques and rehab, and have come across all types of people with all types of different personalities and fitness levels.&nbsp;</p><br><p>What got me started as a trainer? My own health and wellbeing took a hit at the ripe age of 26. Formally a track and basketball player, I found myself huffing and puffing after only walking a couple of blocks. I was a mom of 3 by this time.&nbsp; I decided to back into shape to feel better and as a result it not only got me in shape, but was a great stress outlet due to those lovely endorphins. I have a passion for helping women exercise in the comfort of their own homes (or outside) because I understand how convenient it is and I also understand the intimidation that a gym can cause many women. I personally have always trained at home, getting up to exercise daily at 5 am. <br /><br />I have worked with brides-to-be, clients with Rheumatoid Arthritis, back problems (specifically spinal fusion), kidney disease &amp; lupus, anxiety, moms (sometimes with their kids along) and senior clients. <br /><br />I tailor each workout specifically to each client and include a lot of strength training exercises as well as HIIT (if they are at that fitness level) as well as lots of flexibility and mobility exercises. When the weather is nice I encourage my clients to train outside, either in their backyard or a local park. I have been a trainer for the past 5+ years and have worked in a commercial gym, strength gym and clinical setting at a physical therapy office. I am able to service a very wide range of clients from beginners to advanced lifters to post-rehab. My sessions are typically focused on making sure the exercises are catered to YOUR mobility/flexibility and I will never put you in a position that you do not "own." Meaning that if your arm can't go overhead without compensating, there is no world where I would ever give you a dumbbell for an overhead press. Sounds like a no brainer but you'd be surprised at what you see at the gym. <br><br>I value mobility and proper movement over maximal effort, but that doesn't mean I can't give you a good kick in the pants! I try to educate as much as I can during my sessions so that you are learning the "why" for the movements I am asking you to do. Realistically, I can't be with you for every workout so I want you to have the confidence to know that what you are doing isn't going to hurt you if you go to the gym on your own.
